Ok guys, as it has come to my knowledge, many of you enjoy the band Muse. So I have decided to make this thread! What, in your opinion, is the QUINTESSENTIAL Muse album? Feel free to discuss anything about the band as well! Who knows, maybe you can get a member into the band!
You typical Muse fanboy would say Origin of Symmetry, but that one would be my number 2. At the time, Muse still quite hadn't struck their core sound, which got fully realized on Absolution, which is host to some of their best songs. I would recommend anyone to start there, for it's their best.
I voted The Resistance. I love the classical feel throughout the album. But I can't decide my favourite, I love all of them. I'd say I like Showbiz the least
I voted for Black Holes and Revelations, largely because I feel that album has some of the strongest songs of the band's entire discography. It is hard to ignore the strength of an album that opens with "Take a Bow" and then closed with "Knights of Cydonia." It has such great fan favorites, from simpler songs like "Starlight" and "Supermassive Black Hole" to really great, lasting songs like "Map of the Problematique," "City of Delusion" and "Hoodoo." Despite this, I think Absolution is probably the objectively strongest album of the discography. There is not a single bad song on that album - it is well written, does well with permeating and persistent thematic elements and topics (e.g. the apocalypse), and it has my favorite of Muse's songs ever ("Butterflies and Hurricanes.") It's just such a strong album through and through, even though Black Holes was my favorite. If you're looking to get into the band, start with Absolution. After that it would be worth it to check out the older albums, both of which are good in their own way. Origin of Symmetry is really raw and really was the beginning of the band coming to form. Showbiz is weaker than the other albums but has some great tracks in my opinion, including "Sunburn," "Cave," "Showbiz," and so on. After that, you can look into The Resistance and The 2nd Law which show the band becoming a little more experimental and over-the-top, developing the more notable Queen-like sound that they're now known for. The most recent album, The 2nd Law, is the most diverse of the albums - trying various genres and is really a big effort on part of the band to experiment. Some songs take on the likes of INXS and David Bowie (e.g. "Panic Station"), some like Radiohead "Animals," and some try something new entirely like dubstep with guitar ("The 2nd Law: Unsustainable"). It's a pretty cool album although I think it's the hardest to get into.
I'm with Louis on this one. Songs like Save Me, Explorers, and Survival had to really, really grow on me. Plus, it didn't feel quite as epic as precious album a la OOF, BHAR, and Absolution. There's some Muse acronyms for ya
It's The Resistance for me. I always get a kick out of concept albums, and I really loved The Resistance as it is. The music, themes, lyrics and that fucking epic three-part finale are just simply awesome. This. It's a pretty accessible album when you think about it. No other Muse album was really as open to mainstream audiences like The 2nd Law is. It has dubstepz and dem beatz after all.
Absoultion Black Holes And Revelations The 2nd Law Origin of Symmetry Heard The Resistance once, Showbiz never, so I don't know where to place them.
You should rectify that. The Resistance and Showbiz have some of their best songs (Exogenesis: Symphony, Falling Down, Unintended).
It's a toss-up between Absolution and Origin of Symmetry, but I think Absolution is overall a little more cohesive.
That is really hard to say. Muse is my 2nd favorite band, and they have some cool music, though I haven't listened to all of it
