Linkin Park bandmates Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda have joined an elite group of prominent rock musicians and modern artists to pay homage to Pantera/Damageplan guitar legend Dimebag Darrell Abbott. Dimebag was slain along with three others by a psychotic fan at a Columbus, Ohio Damageplan concert on December 8th, 2004. The display, named "Six-String Masterpieces: The Dimebag Darrell Art Tribute", will include a collection of 50 guitars hand-painted by world-famous rock stars and modern artists. Speculation leads us to believe Mike and Chester will be designing a guitar of their own for the collection. Also included in the tribute: -- A charitable art auction designed to benefit a foundation dedicated to music, education, and the improvement of the lives of today's youth. -- A travelling tour and attraction to hit major US markets this year. Chester and Mike join the ranks of Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction), Deftones, James Hetfield (Metallica), Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Marilyn Manson, Moby, Munky (Korn), Otep, Rob Zombie, Sammy Hagar, Sully Erna (Godsmack), Sum 41, Ted Nugent, Tom Morello (Audioslave), Tommy Lee (Motley Crue) and more for the cause. its real admirable for them to do that but i have to be honest.. ive never heard of Dimebag Darrell before
Those guitars will be auctioned right ... they won't be for everyone to buy i guess, only really rich people will get them ... why doesn't Mike or Chester design a guitar for everyone to buy offcourse it's a great way to pay homage to such a legendary person !
I believe it's for display purposes only as part of the exhibit. The guitars will not be auctioned off, as is my understanding.
Wait what !!!!!!! I'm not so sure it's admirable...trust me, almost no one who wants to honor Dimebag likes LP. Dimebag is from a music movement that is almost exactly opposite to LP. As much as I love Linkin Park, you can't compare the two (Pantera vs. LP) in terms of virtuousity...and I don't even like Pantera that much! It won't be appreciated by most. If you think I'm lying, read the reaction on this metal site. My personal favorite is "they [LP] sound like NSYNC with guitars." Which, you have to admit, isn't far wrong sometimes... Edit: Also here. Trust me, most people who take any sort of serious attitude towards guitar have nothing but disdain for LP and most modern radio rock bands, musically speaking. --Petey
I was looking at Otep's piece, and saw Chester's. It appears Joe Hahn did one also. I didn't see Mike's though.
Blabbermouth is full of egotistical, elitist metal fans that don't accept anything if it's released on a major label or if it isn't "tr00" enough. And I also like how you make it out to sound like just because Mike, Chester and Joe are from a somewhat different genre (but not totally different), they can't pay their respects to someone that paved the way for rock and metal music. Real classy.
