Here is a comics thread, wherein we discuss the reading of comics, as in comic books. Your favourite stories, writers, artists, stuff you've read recently, whatever you like as long as it pertains to comics. Comics. Right now I'm reading All-Star Superman volume 1 and Batman RIP. WHAT ABOUT YOU?!?!?!?!
I was a huge fan of comics when I was younger (I have a box full of, like, 200-or-so comics, most of which are from the late 80s/early 90s). I've only read them sporadically ever since, but I'm thinking about getting back into them. Any recommendations?
I was in the same position not that long ago. For more recent stuff that's easy to get into and also really good I would recommend mostly anything Batman or Superman by Grant Morrison, or Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men. Maybe Scott Pilgrim if you want something that's (mostly) lighter, legitimately funny and not to do with superheroes... the main downfall of that series is the artwork, depending on your tastes. I like it personally, but in a perfect world there'd be something that's as visually impressive as the film and as in-depth as the comic.
Yeah, considering how much I like the movie, Scott Pilgrim seems like a good place to start. And from what I've seen the art doesn't bother me. Speaking of Grant Morrison, have you read any of his work on New X-Men? It seems like people either love it or hate it.
Nah. Pretty much everything I've read by Grant Morrison is DC. If you want to read more recent X-Men stuff you can jump straight to Astonishing X-Men. I've been reading that and I'd say as long as you have at least some knowledge of X-Men to start it shouldn't trouble you too much on the whole if you haven't read New X-Men first.
I'm pretty well versed in the X-Men mythos, so it shouldn't be an issue, I think. I'll definitely give Whedon's X-Men a try.
Comics that I'm reading now that I can list from the top of my head The Infinite (from Image/skybound Comics) Invincible (from Image/skybound Comics) Super Dinosaur (from Image/skybound Comics) Morning Glories (from Image/skybound Comics) The Walking Dead (from Image/skybound Comics) ^are all by the same writer. Ultimate (Comics) Spider-Man (From Marvel Comics) Lock and Key (IDW) The Stand (Marvel Comics [stephen king] ) The Red Wing (Image Comics) X-Men - The Manga (1998) (Marvel Imports) That's all the comics I can list for now, not including manga, except X-Men
I read the Marvel Civil War series a few months back with all the crossovers, while interesting it didn't leave me wanting more. My favorite series of all time is Optic Nerve by Adrian Tomine, random short stories about fucked up depressing people. Issue #12 just came out, and thanks to this thread I got reminded to go out and get it. Thanks!
Huge comic fan, huge. I always go to COMIC CON! I love it because I always add stuff to my nerd Fortress.
Wow, you spam bots are getting intelligent now. Too bad your programmers are still fucking idiots and have "so you think you can dance" and links to products in your title/signature. Banned.
I got into comics maybe like four months ago. I am liking the New 52 from what I have been reading/collecting. But then again, I am only a Batman fan. Detective Comics has been really cool, but issue #3 was sort of a letdown. The villain seems alot more one dimensional now. Batman is SICK. And The Dark Knight is good, but art in #3 seemed rushed and the story is kind of dragging. Aaaaand, Justice League is great. Geoff Johns and Jim Lee rock. It's been kind of slow, but it's understandable since they have to introduce all of the characters. All three issues have been top notch.
