Was just watching the band's documentary on ATOS when at 15:22 they were previewing Debris. Click here to get directly at the song. http://youtu.be/gsh7mBAtKGQ?t=15m20s It is only played for about 2-3 seconds, during the clap-clap part of the song and Pheonix claps also, in sarcasm. Afterwhich Brad says "Lets move on". BTW Debris is an MTM Demo
The band decided to continue working on it, along with Pretend To Be, Not Alone and Blackbirds, they're all in the same category since they were all originally MTM demos but they worked on them in the ATS sessions but abandoned them.
Blackbirds wasn't worked on during the ATS sessions, unless you count doing a final mastering job on the original recording before they sent it to the 8-Bit Rebellion developers. I have my doubts about Pretend to Be as well.
Well, didn't they stop working on Pretend To Be in 2008? Which would be post-MTM so it would count, I would assume.
I have no idea why Pretend To Be has a title date of 2008 then. Because MTM was made in 2006/early 2007. It doesn't sound a thing like anything on ATS but I still consider it to be a ATS demo. Blackbirds was released in 2010, so that's kind of ATSish.
Blackbirds was in the Making of MTM, but since it was released officially with 8BR and not as a demo, it's a finished track. I wouldn't call Blackbirds a demo, maybe the quiet part before the guitar comes in. I think the motive there was to show fans the before and after of the song, since the game stressed that it was "unreleased".
I was under the impression PTB was written after MTM, while they were still intending to continue the MTM sound, but then they decided to change direction for ATS so they scrapped it.
The ending of the song heard in the making of MTM is basically identical to the actual song's ending, but I still think it was worked on a lot after MTM was completed (2008/2009). It kind of bugs me. They should have released the original version that was intended for MTM.
