i finally listened to all of the new album from the deftones. i have to say it is bad ass. i still think s/t is the best but this isnt too far behind. there are only 2 tracks i think i dont like. i could go the rest of my life and never hear pink cellphone again and i know id die a happy man. but other than that there is only 1 track that i dont like. everyone should check out the track rats! rats! rats! that is one heavy song. i say the only tracks to stay away from are pink cellphone and comanche/riviere. some may like the last one as it is a very soft song similar to a team sleep song but its not for me. anyways im anxious to see what everyone else has to say about it. my favs: hole in the earth beware cherry waves mein xerxes rats! rats! rats! the earth
Well, I'll just copy what I said in RT7 just about a minute ago. I really hoped the album would be more agressive/like Adrenaline but I didn't expect it to be after what Chino made with Team Sleep. Positive: - Chino's voice is excellent, they all sound quite perfect. - Abe's drumming really stood out in some songs. - It's another Deftones record. - Lot of good songs. Negative: - Stephen's guitar parts don't stand out at all. I think in most songs, he plays easy stuff compared to what he can play. He's a great guitarist and it's a shame he had to step aside for the other musicians to do their thing. - I think Chino really wanted the others to follow his view on the songs and don't do their own stuff and that's why Stephen was forced to play low-key stuff. - There isn't one song I could remember after I listened to it for the first time... - that Pink Cellphone song just sucked, it wasn't even good enough to be a Team Sleep type of song. - Not even one awesome song. I'm not sure if I'll keep listening to this album but I'll probably listen to their other stuff some more. Rating: 3/5, it could've been better.
i agree with you about pink cellphone. i dont know what the hell they were smoking when they did that song.
It's a pretty good album, I find myself listening to it more and more. I enjoy pretty much the same songs that you do.
I'm holding out until the 30th. There's something about 'Hole In The Earth' that makes me think of Incubus when I listen to it, even though it doesn't seem to sound like them particularly.
Yeah, the song does have an Incubus feel to it. By the way, remove the last part from Pink Cellphone and it's a pretty good song. Feels like a slower paced Gorillaz song with darker overtones. Nine Inch Nails-ish? I really like the "OHHHH" whatever baratone noise that's made in that song... sounds epic?
