My Chemical Romance have released a cover of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" for the soundtrack to the upcoming film Watchmen, which can be downloaded on iTunes. I'll try and post a Youtube et al link once it's up. Hell to the yes.
I love the cover. Gerard posted a long description about the process of how they did it. It was a good read.
Here's a Youtube link Warner actually haven't removed yet. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=_bJPv8a7QZU I love it. I haven't listened to My Chem for quite a while, but this is promising.
That links to Bob Dylan's song but MCR's cover is there to download in the description section, if that's what you meant.
..Yeah, that's the Bob Dylan version. Which, I might add, is far superior. It's beautiful, simple and elegant. It's the perfect song to close out a movie like Watchmen. I actually tracked down a preview of the MCR version, and that's all I needed to hear to convince me that it's a piece of trash. They took an acoustic song and sped it up and turned it into a garbled, bastardized song, complete with Gerard's awful voice. Seriously, what the fuck? I fully expect the damn soundtrack to contain all these flavor of the month alternative rock bands and high profile MTV acts like MCR and, fuck, probably even Linkin Park.
Yeah, I realised that, I just figured I can't post the actual download link due to the LPA's policy. My trying to be sneaky didn't work. Casey: I still prefer the original as well, so that's fair enough.
As far as I know this is the only band that's on the cd and then it has an original score. I might be wrong
Fair enough if anyone likes this version or MCR themselves, but I don't like either and I'm a huge Dylan fan. Call it bias, whatever. Also, I'm a huge Watchmen fan, so to watch this movie, that has been filmed to near perfection from the source material, have something so essential to this novel like the music (seriously, the music in the actual novel plays a pivotal role) be changed like this is gutwrenching. I guess next we'll have Slipknot or someone covering Elvis Costello's "The Comedians". EDIT: That's the picture disc, Sylar. It's that song and then a portion of the score, or something. The CD of the film's score, and the actual soundtrack with bands and whatnot will be released closer to the film's release date. I was looking at them earlier today on Warner Bros' Watchmen website. http://watchmen.warnerbrosrecordsstore.com/
I just realized they have the soundtrack for pre-order on iTunes too and yeah it's a various artists thing but My Chem doesn't fit whatsoever
Does it have a tracklisting by any chance? I haven't heard a word about who could possibly be on it, other than the songs that have been in the teasers/trailers, like the Pumpkins, Muse, etc.
01:: Desolation Row - My Chemical Romance 02:: Unforgettable - Nat "King" Cole 03:: The Times They Are A-Changin - Bob Dylan 04:: The Sound of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel 05:: Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin 06:: I'm Your Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band 07:: You're My Thrill - Billie Holiday 08:: Pruit Igoe and Prophecies - Phillip Glass 09:: Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen 10:: All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix 11:: Ride of the Valkyries - Budapest Symphony 12:: Pirate Jenny - Nina Simone So yeah, nothing remotely like MCR on there. They just seem to really stick out Interesting choice of songs.
That is much, much better. That soundtrack suits the film perfectly. Surprised it doesn't have some of the songs actually mentioned in the novel, though.
Isn't the point of MCR's version to be over the end credits? EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLyQl4prEMc
Yeah, you're right. Least play the Dylan version during the movie or something. In a way, i'm with Casey on this one, with the exception that I like MCR. You just can't have a band like them covering Bob Dylan. It's blasphemy. But the rest of the soundtrack seems great.
