Click Here For Article I, personally, believe that Evanescence did open the doors for other female fronted bands to enter the mainstream, but I personally think similiar bands (Within Temptation, Nightwish) are better than Evanescence and do that type of music better than Amy Lee & Co. could ever hope of doing. Although, it upsets me that Within Temptation made a rip-off video off Bring Me To Life to get the same popularity, but they're still better than Evanescence, in my opinion. Don't believe me? Go listen to their album, "Mother Earth". Fucking classic album. I hate when people group in female fronted bands like Arch Enemy with Evanescence just because they have a female lead singer. You can't compare Angela Gossow to Amy Lee. You just can't. What are your opinions? Do you think bands like Lacuna Coil could have broke through to the mainstream if Evanescence never hit it big? Or do you think they play a big role in it?
I don't think Evanescence opened a door for anyone,if anything they've closed the door a lil' bit cos now female fronted bands will be expected to reach a certain standard now otherwise they'll never have big success,Evanescence (despite bieng one of my favorite bands) just came out of nowhere and went straight to number 1 with Bring Me To Life-something that some female fronted bands can't do for years or at all for that matter
That was an interesting read, but it is debatable wheither or not I think Evanescence opened doors for other female fronted bands, but yes they did bring attention to the scene.
I certainly think Evanescence brought it exposure and made it more mainstream. Obviously other female-fronted bands are going to get more coverage after a huge band like Evanescence. What I love is how no record companies have pushed out faux female-fronted rock bands since Evanescence's success.
No, they've only made it harder for them. Record labels and the mainstream media like similar sounds, but they don't want any band that seems to be an exact rip-off. It doesn't matter if they've been around longer than Evanescence, they'll only get the standard 'We don't want another Evanescence' response when they try to do anything.
Wouldn't you say the record companies are all about capitalizing on the success of others, no matter whether the music sounds alike or not? That seems to be the way things work, as I view it, in the music industry.
Outright lie right there. Evanescence and Lacuna Coil came out at roughly the same time, but Lacuna Coil managed to get onto a larger label faster than Evanescence did. Just thought I'd point that out.
I don't think Lacuna Coil got mainstream success just because they were signed to a "major" label before Evanescence. Who had the #1 hit and (I think) album? Unless I'm totally missing your point.
Lacuna Coil came around in 2001 with "Unleashed Memories." Evanescence sprang up in 2003 with "Fallen."

I mean, record companies want bands that sound similar, but most of the time they don't want what they'd classify as a "rip-off" of another, highly popular band. Which, unfortunately, is a lot of bands are -- similar to Evanescence in that the only female member is the lead singer.

Also, they released Origin sometimes in 2001 i think [/b][/quote] Ahh. Was Origin an official release, though? I thought I read somewhere from an interview a while back that Amy said it never was..but I could be wrong.
Yes, although I can't remember what label Origin was released on. On an unrelated note, Whisper is single-handedly responsible for getting them onto Wind-Up.
