I see alot of people nowadays who absolutely hate Family Guy and the way it rips off of the Simpsons. I know that they both kind of have an ongoing dispute with each other, but I want to know what your opinion is. Personally, I think Family Guy is much funnier than The Simpsons. I've tried to give The Simpsons a try many times, and I do think that Family Guy does get alot of their ideas from them(But they've been around so long, who doesn't?), but Family Guy like over does it and does something more extreme that just attracts me to Family Guy more than The Simpsons. Family Guy I laugh out loud at, The Simpsons I've laughed at maybe once. I know alot of people would disagree, but what are your thoughts?
The Simpsons. You can take 85% of Family Guy jokes and stick them in any other episode, and it wouldn't be out of place. Family Guy can't even keep the same line of thought for more then a few minutes. It use to, but since its return it is just toss everything at the way and see what sticks.
I like them both. They're some what similar but there are many differences too. Family Guy is more like a parody of Simpsons, that got out of hand then became a real serie. Family Guy is funny in a different way than Simpsons most but sometimes their humor is quite similar too. They're both great series, I like too watch them both but Family Guy is funnier sometimes. It really depends...
I prefer Family Guy. I can watch Family Guy over and over again and not get sick of the jokes. I don't feel the same way with The Simpsons.
I enjoy them both but I will always be a Simpson's fan over Family Guy. The truth is, if it wasn't for the Simpson's there probably wouldn't even be a Family Guy. Family Guy is funny but I think the Simpson's has had more impact on me over the years, probably because I've grew up watching it. The later episodes are nowhere near as good as the earlier / mid-season episodes of the Simpson's, but I'm not going to abandon the whole show just because they're later material isn't as good as it once was. There are some classic episodes & moments in the Simpson's.
Family Guy is definitely better. It never gets old. The Simpsons is good and all, but it's getting dull. The ideas are blunt, and they're using old ideas repetitively. I prefer Family Guy.
The Simpsons used to be really good but it's been out of its prime for a long time now. Family Guy is much funnier now, in my opinion. Family Guy is more of a satire of media icons than The Simpsons is/was and that's a big part of what makes the show funny.
I'm sure that if Family Guy had been running 17 years, their ideas would be getting dull & blunt too. Come back in another ten years, and if Family Guy is still going, tell me they're not repeating old ideas. Maybe The Simpson's should have thrown in the towel a long time ago, but just because they haven't doesn't diminish the quality of the earlier material. I know that the Simpson's & Family Guy are different and I enjoy them both, but if it wasn't for the Simpson's, Family Guy probably wouldn't even exist.
Can't agree more. They're both great like I said but without Simpsons, Family Guy wouldn't be what it is now or wouldn't even exist.
The Simpsons is better as a whole. I can only watch a Family Guy episode once or twice before I get fed up of it, because a lot of the humour is either grounded in American culture or aimed at American b-listers who I've never heard of, or it's so purile I don't find it funny after seeing it more that once or twice. Granted, some of the skits are funny (Kiss Save Christmas, or whatever it was called) and so is some of the dialogue, but I think The Simpsons has more staying power. Whenever I watch an older episode there is always something I didn't notice before, and now that I have something like a grip on my hormones it's actually a lot funnier. I would agree that the newer episodes are inferior to the ones from the late '90s, but they still blow the shit out of a lot of other television.
The Simpsons have been a huge impact on probably every cartoon out there. It's been around so long it's, like South Park said, hard to do an idea The Simpsons haven't done. Family Guy overdoes thing so much that I find it hilarious. Their kind of over done, sarcastic, on the edge humor is what I find really funny. It's kind of what I find funny about South Park, but South Park is more of a shock funny, like: "Wow..." The Simpsons is a legendary show. It will always be a huge influence. While I find Family Guy alot funnier, I'm not going to deny that The Simpsons isn't an amazing show, and has gone a loooong way. Is it 17 seasons? Wow.
Plus there is a movie coming out too and the screenplay is being worked on by the old writers of the Simpsons...the ones who made the show so damn good in the first place.
I've seen almost every episode of The Simpsons and I've laughed maybe a handful of times. I've laughed at every episode of Family Guy multiple times. I love the references to the '70s and '80s, especially pop culture.
Yes because you speak for everyone else don't you. I think both are equaly funny, both have their on-and-off episodes that are either absolute gold or just boring to watch. The thing that makes me slant slightly more towards the Simpsons is the sheer amount of good episodes there are which is much greater than the number of bad episodes whereas I feel that with Family Guy the good/bad ratio is quite even. That's just my opinion anyway.
wow man i was about to post the exact same thing. i'm a simpsons fan over family guy, i just think FG is crap to put it bluntly, it's always the same kinda joke themes.
