Image credit: larissav on instagram via linkinpark Last show before a two month tour break, Indonesia, let's go! Linkin Parks history in Indonesia may stretch back 21 years, but it's not a history that's filled with a lot of information. Linkin Park has only played two shows in the country, in 2004 and in 2011, with Mike Shinoda also stopping by with the Post Traumatic tour in 2019. In 2004 the band headed out on their international tour, craming in some dates outside of the US in a year that otherwise consisted of a North American tour and Projekt Revolution only in the US. As this was part of the 2004 world tour, it also included some favourites from that setlist that we know from the Rock am Ring show a few days before this show. Songs like the Wish cover, the Hip-Hop medley and the awesome intro to Don't Stay with the Gacela poem intro. In 2011 the band returned on their Asian leg of their A Thousand Suns, playing their third to last show on the entire run, before starting the LIVING THINGS show/tour cycle in May of 2012. Bleed It Out closing out the 2011 show So while there haven't been much to say about Linkin Park in Indonesia, thankfully Mike Shinoda stops by with his Post Traumatic tour in 2019. This was the first performance in the country for any Linkin Park member since the 2011 show, although Chester was supposed to play a show as part of Stone Temple Pilots in 2014. Unfortunately the band had to cancel their entire Spring tour because Chester had to go in the studio with Linkin Park to finish work on the album that would become The Hunting Party. About You / Over Again / Papercut from Mikes 2019 show. So let's talk about what happened at the two latest shows Linkin Park shows, both in Japan. First of all, the band was on fire. By the recordings we've seen it's not unreasonable to say that this is the best the band has sounded since the From Zero cycle started. In terms of setlists, the band kept it the same as they did in Mexico with the A and B sets, except that on the second night the band switched Crawling out for Points of Authority. This is the first time Points of Authority has been played since the second night in Sao Paulo, being cut from the bands shortened set in Riyadh, and missing in Mexico completely. This is also the first time that Crawling has been skipped on this cycle, and even though the song has been dropped when the band performs shorter sets, the last time the song wasn't part of a normal setlist was back in 2015. While there weren't any new debuts in Japan, what we instead got was some fantastic recordings. Finally, we got some great sounding versions of Good Things Go, Overflow and the hybrid version of Lost. These songs debuted in Mexico, but for several reasons, the sound was less than optimal in the recordings from those shows. Great crowds though! If you haven't seen the videos from the shows, I'll include some of the best here below. Also, while there are always fans recording these shows and uploading them, a special shout out has to go to Erynn Halvorson on YouTube who has been traveling around the world to record some of these shows and uploading them for our enjoyment. If we're going by the trend of the setlists being in order A-B-C, setlist C should be played at this show. That means Given Up and From the Inside in the rotating spots. But with the recent swap of Points of Authority and Crawling, do we now have a third rotating spot? Will the band switch up the setlist more for this show? Will LOST IN THE ECHO or Breaking the Habit make a comeback? Will we ever see a return of Friendly Fire or My December, or were they, however beautiful and great sounding as they might've been, just placeholders for the new From Zero tracks? After this show the band takes a two month break from touring, making sure to rest up before heading out on a eight date run stateside in April and May. This run will mostly consist of headlining shows, but also two festival stops at Sonic Temple, and Welcome to Rockville. I think that's fair. You're expressing it far with far more tact than a lot of people. I think there a couple where I still feel a little caught off-guard. It really depends on the song for me. I love the way "Papercut," "New Divide," "BURN IT DOWN," "Keys to the Kingdom," or "Lying from You" sound live with Emily, for example. They're awesome and I think she really nails those songs. But "Waiting for the End" with Emily still feels odd to me, probably just because I have a stronger emotional connection to that song the way it was recorded for A Thousand Suns. She's not bad at performing the song either; I just really have a strong tie to Chester's vocals on it I suppose. I think it's natural for some of the songs we got really tied to hearing Chester on having that effect.
@Christøffer @ZERØ is totally understandable, I think. Curiously, for me is almost the opposite, I love her WFTE and the emotional My December, and somehow on ITE or NUMB I feel she’s still quite “learning” how to make them her songs.
Songs that we hadn't heard Chester sing live, like KTTK or Friendly Fire, have been the easiest to instantly adapt to for me. Then there are some songs, like FTI or LITE, where Emily's voice range just fits perfectly and adds a new flavor. And then, sure, you have the occasional "is a bit weird" one. For me, it's also mostly the big hits, like Numb or ITE.
Indeed @Qwerty19, those not done with Chester, being new feel perfect. KTTK is awesome in my opinion, or Lost. for the rest, I think she'll handle them better with time and shows.
