People would hear it if he gave it away for free, too. You don't see him doing that, do you?

He's in it for the money too. Don't be naive.

That's not a lot of money at all. Are you on crack?

It's roughly $419,720. That's more money than I'll ever see in my life.

That comment wasn't directed toward you.

Mike probably won't see any more than 10% of that money. Most of it will go to Warner since they distributed the record.

It's probably costed a lot more to promote and produce the record. Mike won't get a check in the mail for sometime.

It's an "underground" rap record being pushed by a major label. Did anybody really expect it to sell that well the first week out?

How can a major label push an undergroup rap record? Isn't that redundant?

Fort Minor isn't underground. It's not 50 Cent, but it's not exactly MF Doom or anything either.

There aren't very many people outside of the LP Underground and the linkinpark.com forums who know about Fort Minor. Some of my friends who used to be big into LP didn't even know Fort Minor existed. Some of them who are still big into LP didn't know Fort Minor existed.

I find it hard to believe that a group with a high profile member like Mike isn't known in the least. Saying it's underground is a bit of a stretch, I think.

But I never expected it to get #1. Because it's not that good of an album. Well, that and it didn't receive much promotion.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that The Mars Volta is better than Fort Minor. In basically… every way imaginable. But for the sake of beating horses, or whatever, I’m going to list them out. Because that’s just the kind of guy I am.

    Singles.
That Fort Minor thing chose Petrified as it’s first single.
The Mars Volta chose L’via L’viaquez as their single.

Now, I dare someone that isn’t missing a gene of some sort, or deaf, to go listen to L’via and truthfully state that Petrified is a better song. Vocals? Chalk one up for TMV. Lyrics? “My name is Mike” or “Blackmailed she fell off every mountain / The ones they tightly wrappen in tape / In her eraser sang the guilty / As it made the best mistake”. Come on. Be serious. Ethnic flair? L’via sizzled with latin flavor while Petrified’s only flair was that synthesized crescendo. Guitar work? Petrified had… wait. Was there even a guitar? hmm. The Mars Volta has Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. Look him up.

    Music Videos.
That Shicoka’s video was essentially he and his “homedogs” in a vacant building “chillin” and… doing… something.

L’via L’viaquez was a plethora of orgasmic color and surprises at every turn. It’s essentially the ocular equivalent to sex with Carmen Electra, while Petrified is the equivalent to a bubble bath with Gary Busey.

    Record Debuts.

    Fort Minor debuted at #60.
The Mars Volta’s Frances The Mute debuted at #4.

    The Rising Tied: Sixty.
    Frances The Mute: Four.

Both were released in 2005. And you can’t really quote competition or marketing, seeing as how Fort Minor debuted against System Of A Down. Which is a pretty popular band, I’ll give you.

But The Mars Volta debuted against 50 Cent and Jennifer Lopez. Enough said.

Now, as far as marketing goes, That Michael Shinode had his album promoted by Jay-Z and MTV’s TRL. The Mars Volta had essentially a five-song album in which all but one of it’s songs were over 10 minutes in length. Even Oprahcouldn’t sell that.

    Collaborations.

That Shinodiodiodiodiodiodiodio guy has some cool people work with him, like Styles of Beyond (apparently they’re “all the rage”) and Holly Brook (okay?). The Mars Volta worked with John Frusciante, Flea, Larry Harlow (look him up), Saul Williams, etc. I think that sums this section up.

    Prior Bands.

    Fort Minor -> Linkin Park.
The Mars Volta -> At The Drive-In.

    Seriously. Is this even debatable?

    Looks.

Admittedly, the big MS (not Bill Gate’s company) is a hot fellow, but how does he compare with the latino, tan, Puerto Rican body of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez? He doesn’t.

    Alright everyone, thanks.

    Yes, obviously I am.

No, I was just stating that it isn't that good of an album.

Branden, I don't see why you chose to compare them and then you claim one is "better". And most of your reasons are based on misleading statements and opinions that lack facts. "Better" in this case is a difference of opinion, not fact.

And I didn't even bring up the comparison. I was correcting someone else.

Spike: Please, start thinking and reading before typing.

Besides, "Believe me god D at-sign M one hundred seventy seven" is too many syllables.

"So I’ve come to the conclusion that The Mars Volta is better than Fort Minor." That's already been shown.

Please specify what "misleading information" was given. Opinions, yes, that's true.

Just to let you all know, if I really wanted to make a point, I wouldn't have made jokes about Gary Busey and Oprah.
