This is the one song which I always forget about, then I come back to it and it always sounds fucking awesome. Chester becomes a fucking demon with that scream, it's the ultimate "fuck the world" song for me.. any other fans? P.S. I can't believe people accused LP of selling out when MTM had tracks like this on it.. wtf.
"Given Up" was one of those songs that didn't do it for me at first, but as time went by, I came to appreciate this song more and more. Today, I'd call it a highlight among LP's "heavy" songs, especially with the 18-second scream. Damn, I hope THAT wasn't what partially strained or weakened Chester's vocals for some time. Here's to hoping that his singing (and possibly screaming) voice will be top notch on LP7, if he doesn't overdo it. Edit: I just remembered that were it not for the demo "Asbestos", we may not have received such a beastly song among many calmer, softer songs on MTM. "Asbestos" itself is pretty sick, too.
I admire the track a lot for how minimal it is, but still completely and utterly full of energy. I mean it's just bass, power chords, drums, Chester, and some jingling keys/claps, but damn it goes hard. I can't imagine having written HT/Meteora and still having the vision to create a song like this.
Seriously what the hell does this have to do with Given Up? Given Up is definitely one of Linkin Park's most underrated heavy tracks. This was the band's first true foray into punk long before War. The bridge is just masterclass angst. I'm honestly not sure how the Hybrid Theory/Meteora legion of fanboys weren't blown away when they first started Minutes To Midnight.
I really like this song, and really shows the full potential of the band. And this is also one of the song I'd like to see dropped (or at least rotated) by the band, since I don't think Chester can sing this continually without getting injured vocally. And I'd really like to give more room to newer songs.
