I've been out in the market for soft melodic songs that make you relax to. Now I'm not into music that consists of waterfalls and the sound of nature or native monk music or even classical music, but songs that are from this age and have nice lyrics and a nice piano/orchestra tune to it but having a hard time finding some. Can anyone recommend me music that is easy to relax to without headbanging to it?

Any Radiohead album from OK Computer onwards.

Cat Power (pretty sparing with the instruments in recent albums, though)

Kaki King is usually amazing to relax to. Listen to Montreal in specific.

"Still" by Nine Inch Nails is the perfect lazy, rainy Sunday afternoon type of album. For me, anyway.

    My December?

I'd say from my collection of music, go Silverchair (songs: Cemetery, Petrol & Chlorine, After All These Years, Asylum, Luv Your Life, My Favorite Thing, Across The Night, Tuna in the Brine, many others).

    Radiohead.
Silverchair (basically the stuff Tomozaurus said)

I gotta say though, I only listen to still if I wanna depress myself at the same time... It just does that to me.

I find the most relaxing NIN songs are the softer instrumentals. If I just want to space out and forget everything, i get high i listen to songs without lyrics.

Oh, and I might think their lead singer is a giant douchebag, but the Exogenesis collection off of Muse's new album is very relaxing. For me.

Yeah i feel the same way. Still is one of my favourite albums, but it's not an album i relax to .

Anyway, as for the original question. Happier themed ambient like Eluvium is good, many downtempo electronic bands like Boards Of Canada, Amon Tobin, Dubstep like Burial or Kode9, Trip-Hop like Massive Attack or Portishead. DJ Shadow is my favourite thing to relax to, i sleep to Entroducing... a lot.

The Ditty Bops, the Puppini Sisters, Chester French, the Hush Sound, Eisley. Damn, I was just thinking about the sort of bands you're talking about, but can't remember which ones.

I don't see how someone can say that they can't relax to "Still", then immediately suggest Portishead.
