Considering the following aspects of guitar, who do you think is the greatest guitarist ever?
    --Technical ability (judged most importantly)
    --Influence/origionallity
    --Writing ability
    --Longivity
--Any other important aspects or skills you think should be taken into consideration (like live preformances or popularity)

I'm gonna have to lay down three right here:

-Jimmy Page (Although I don't particularly like Led Zeppelin, I have a ton of respect for him.)

    -Jimi Hendrix

-Zakk Wylde (My favorite guitarist of all time.)

I might be alittle bias right now, seeing as how he just recently was murdered, but I'm really digging Dimebag Darrell's work with Pantera. Not so much Damageplan, but yeah.

    So, Dimebag for me.

Probably the most talented guitarist of all time is Yngwie Malmsteen. If anyone has ever heard his work, you would understand. Malmsteen may not be the most enjoyable music, but he is damn near incredibly talented.

    Other great guitarists:

Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine)
    Jimi Hendrix
    Eric Clapton
    Kerry King (Slayer)
    John Petrucci (Dream Theater)|
    Chris Poland (ex-MegaDeth)

I believe Jimi Hendrix will always be the best guitar player of all time. That man just did some stuff with guitar that was unimaginable for that time period. He was a guitar god BEFORE there were guitar gods and he's probably the reason half these bands out there are playing today. Props to t3h Jimi.

And also, I gotta lay down my hat to Dimebag. Call it corny or biased, but the man deserves it. RIP.

I believe Dimebag was the Jimi Hendrix of the 90s, actually.

Like Hendrix before him, Dimebag (and more largely, Pantera) influenced virtually every metal/rock band out there right now to form a band.

    Just my opinion, though.
