Yes I am writing this post because I asked for the Titanic: Special Edition DVD on Christmas which was one incredible buy. I was a huge fan of this movie since the first time I saw it in 1996, and I don't like it only for the love story (although that part is great) but also for the historical accuracy that went into the recreation of the ship and the special effects that were revolutionary for their time. (For the record, in the remastered special edition these special effects look brand new and as great as the day they were made). So what guys on here think Titanic is an amazing movie, despite its glaring reputation as being a 'chick flick'?
I'll be the second to admit, I loved this movie. I saw it 8 times (yes I said 8) at the cinema. I haven't seen it for a while, but maybe I should.
Yeah... digitally the movie was terrific, i think it was done really well.. However i didnt think it was a chic flick, but then again i was only 10 when it came out and i didnt know what a chic flick was but personally Jurassic Park takes the cake at being "revolutionary for their time" at 1993...
Maybe thats true, but if you buy the special DVD (you should Joe..its so cheap and worth every penny) you'll see some of the amazing work that went into making this movie. For example did you know that for some of the more expensive scenes the actors were never ever there? Yup. A small minature very detailed set was built and then filmed close up, and then the actors were added in via a green screen at a later date. Most incredible part is you cant even tell.
I think it's kind of cute. I'd probably tear up if I watched it now. It was a huge hit but I will agree with tremulant on the idea that Jurassic Park was an industry changer.
The way I see it is, Jurassic Park changed the special effects industry but Titanic showed the world just how much could be done by computer.
Yup. It was the number one highest grossing movie of all time. Spiderman doesnt even come close. 1 1997 Titanic $600,788,188
Well it varies, if you go by sales without ticket inflation its titanic. But if you go by sales with ticket inflation considered, the original Star Wars is the highest to date.
I have a place in my heart for love stories (A Walk To Remember, The Notebook > all), but I hated Titanic.
woah.... i thought that any of the new star wars movies or LOTR or any of the Matrixes would have beat a record set almost 10 years ago.. learn somfing everyday
I'll let everyone in on a secret of mine; I think I was 7 or 8 when I saw Titanic and I actualy cried to it
Ok, it's not the worst movie in the world. I'm still confused though on how it made over $600 mil at the box office.
The boat sinks. I'm pretty sure it was one of the worst movies ever created. I hate movies that concentrate on bullshit side plots rather than the main plot itself which is that the boat sinks.
