I'm sorry if you guys just think this is weird but I felt the need to make a topic. I'm just so incredibly confused about this. This is one of those situations where the left side of your brain turns to the right side of your brain and says "I'm going to go take a nap

I'm sitting here drinking my dinky little bottle of Aquafina water [which, by the way, is gross. Aquafina:Water;MTV:Music] and as I'm looking at the rim, I notice the following:

    EXP JUN2308

...This is on a bottle of water. A bottle of water. Water. W-A-T-E-R. There is an expiration date on water. You mean to tell me that there will be a point in time where, if I were to keep this particular bottle of water with me, it would go bad? How does water...this is water....it's water go bad?!

Help me with this logic. Please.

    ...wow.
    at first I wasn't sure if you're serious. :p

Maybe it's the date where stores are supposed to take it off their shelves and put new ones up if they haven't been sold by then or something.
and Aquafina isn't that bad, loser. <3

My best guess is that it's a best before date (eg the water will still be edible in two years but it won't be as pleasant to drink) but for some reason it's been printed as an expiry date instead. Companies do that sometimes. Either that, or what Nikki said.

Companies are obliged to put a date on any product they make.

It's not that water gets bad but those mineral in it do after a very long time... what Nikki said actually. You shouldn't worry about it, though.

You and your crazy flavors, Amanda.
and I don't understand why people say they hate bottled water so much? I mean, sure, it sounds like a stupid idea, but it's pretty convenient most of the time. I for one would much rather have a bottle of water than a bottle of soda.

    Booooo. =P

EDIT - Oh and.. you guys do realize this was meant to be a joke, right?

EDIT AGAIN - A friend of mine has the correct answer.

'The whole expiration date for water thing used to get me too, but the real reason behind it makes sense.

Eventually the plastic of the bottle will start to break down and the chemicals will get into the water. This happens anyway, but after a certain point it gets to be kind of bad for you. ;)

    Yeah, I'm a trivia geek. '

Actually, Mark. His skit was about the "Nutritional Facts" not the expiration date. ;]

    Just to clear this up...

Water goes stagnant if you leave it for too long.

Bottled water does "expire" so to speak. At the beginning of the school year (August 2005) in my dorm, a bottle of water (forgot the brand) rolled under the couch. I never bothered to get it until I was cleaning up before I moved out (May 2006). I stuck it in the fridge, and drank it the next day. It was disgusting, it tasted like the plastic from the bottle had some how rubbed off and mixed into the water. It was disgusting.
