I bought "Power In Numbers" by Jurassic 5 yesterday and just let me say it is one of the best hip-hop albums I've heard in the past few years. Rather then rap about "b*tches" and the typical things rappers rap about today, the whole album is true to hip-hop's original roots and contains some truly intelligent lyrics. Even track 8, "What's Golden" takes a stab at the rappers of today:

"We're not ballin, we're taking you back to the days of yes y'allin, we're holding on to whats golden.."

The backround music on this record is beyond rockin, and even surpasses Eminem in terms of beats. The flows on this record are spit with textbook precision and manage to perfectely match whatever beat they are meant for. If you ever heard Mike Shinoda go on about a Jurassic 5 it was for a reason, these guys are truly talented and deserve to be as big as some of those fake rappers out there whose names I will not mention.

If the name Jurassic 5 is unfamiliar to you, you may recognize a member of the group named "Chali 2na" who made a guest apperance on the forgotten remix found on Linkin Park's remix album "Reanimation".

Let me tell you first hand that the flow found on that track doesn't even compare to half the raps you hear Chali do on this record. If you are sick of the cookie cutter rap out there right now and want something true, you owe it to yourself to check out "Power In Numbers" by Jurassic 5. If the R.I.A.A hasn't scared the pants off of you I suggest you download the following tracks as a taste:

    "Remember His Name"
    "What's Golden"
    "Sum of Us"
    "Freedom"

Some tracks are unfortunately loops put out by the record label, so another way to possibly listen is to go to a site such as www.amazon.com and stream the tracks they have availible for that CD. If you are a fan of hip-hop I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Mike grew up listening to a lot of these bands so I'm definitely going to check them out and see how his rapping was influenced by them. ^_^

J5 are in Hybrid Theory's "thanks" 's. So , they must have influenced then in some way.
BTW, What's golden is a bit popular in Greece, and it is a wicked sond.

Yeah J5 have been around for a bit of a while, as they have already released about 3 albums. I wanna make a fansite about them but I'm having trouble finding stuff for it..
