Probably the most anticipated release of 2013, Lady Gaga's third full-length studio album, Artpop, is just around the corner!
It comes out first on November 6, 2013 in Japan, November 8 in Friday-release countries like good 'ol Australia, and on November 11 everywhere else!

The follow up to the metaphorically-heavy and pompously mature Born This Way (2011), Artpop will see Lady Gaga return to her roots from The Fame
and explore the far reaches of Electropop and Dance music, with most of the music comprising of bass-heavy synths and an outright belligerent sound, which will mark a
significant change in the musical direction of Lady Gaga, her co-writers, producers and musical team in general.

Gaga is more musically conscious in Artpop than The Fame or Born This Way, spitting out musical monsters such as the explosive opening track "Aura",
co-produced by the amazingly wonderful Zedd, and rage-induced "Swine", while offering peaceful runaway tracks such as title track "Artpop" and serving up risque and
otherwise inappropriate songs such as "Mary Jane Holland" and "G.U.Y.", as per usual!

With fifteen tracks comprising a 60-minute album, Artpop, in addition to being the most pre-ordered album in iTunes Store history, is the most anticipated and will
most likely be the most diverse and unique 60 minutes of music throughout this entire year of music.

"Applause" was cool, but everything that has followed is just ... no.

Quick review: With a skip, alright or banger rating.

    1. Aura - Not feeling the guitar riff or the lyrics until that Zedd-like drop hits. *Checks Wikipedia* Holy crap Zedd produced it?? AND INFECTED MUSHROOM?! Well no wonder that drop is Zedd-like. He really does have a defining style that I could pick up on. From that drop the song takes off like a rocket. Banger that deserved more club oriented remixes. BANGER

    2. Venus
    - Old school 80's flavor. I like it. I'm also liking that these songs are too high concept. I think Born This Way suffered from Gaga trying to do too much. This song is like the sexy soundtrack to Captain Kirk romancing a sexy alien to save her planet. BANGER

    3. G.U.Y
    - Another Zedd production. You can hear it in that bass and those chord progressions. Another banger. I feel like Gaga has gone from trying to impress her core demographic to making high quality pop music. No need to downtalk your fans with overt messages of "BE YOURSELF!!". And G.U.Y. stands for "Girl Under You". BANGER

    4. Sexxx Dreams
    - Starts off pretty sexy and groovy. Turns into another banger. Wikipedia doesn't have most of the producer credits after G.U.Y. but a detect Zedd again. "When I lay in bed I touch myself and think of you." Can get another clearer than that. Another earworm chorus. Funky bridge slap bass. BANGER

    5. Jewels n' Drugs (featuring T.I., Too Short and Twista)
    - Starts off with an orchestra tuning up transforming into a trap beat. Ok, it is a straight up trap beat with T.I. dropping a verse immediate. It serves it's purpose. He never really faults on a feature. Gaga comes in with a gansta (for real) chorus. I'm a little confused haha. I like it but it doesn't at all fit with the previous foursome. Gaga is rapping. "Don't wanta ya jewels, want ya drugs." Then Too Short hits. A legend. I like his verse better than T.I. He owns the bounce on beats like this. Twista is Twista. His verse is 2nd behind Too Short's. Serious curveball from Gaga. I would say ALRIGHT only because it doesn't really fit the vibe of the album at all. Would fit better on the Hustle & Flow soundtrack.

    6. MANiCURE
    - We go from Trap to Country Rock a la Shania Twain. The song wastes no time rushing to the chorus. I'm talking 30 seconds and you're at the chorus. This and Jewels n' Drugs aren't bad, but they feel out of place with the more Euro-style bangers from the beginning of the album. Nice guitar solo. The ending would bang at the club. ALRIGHT

    7. Do What U Want (featuring R. Kelly)
    - As soon as that grinding 80s beat comes on... woo! I love it. Kells voice is still sounding good. Just as good old dirty song in the best way. I detect the chorus is a metaphor for the media talking about her. They can do what they want with her physical form, talk about her size, her clothes, her whole look, but they'll never own her mind or her voice. Personally, I love this song. She kills the vocals. BANGER

    8. ARTPOP
    - Title tracks are either amazing or try way too hard. Let's get into it. Starts with an understated but quirky beat. Seems to be talking about the power of music to transform you. Chorus is underwhelming. Hmm, this song was pretty meh to be honest. Didn't really go anywhere. SKIP

    9. Swine
    - A Deadmau5-like beat a la The Reward is Cheese. (Dat bassline!) Chorus is on point and on stadium status. DJ White Shadow is killing this beat. A nice buildup into a dirty grinding Big Room breakdown. B-B-BANGER

    10. Donatella
    - Starts with the sound of a drink pouring. Gaga making fun of Paris Hilton types. A nice beat with some Zedd bass and some lyrics that wouldn't sound out of place on Orgy's Vapor Transmission. The title can only be referring to Donatella Versace. Donatella apparently likes it but this song is smashing her whole lifestyle and what she represents. Not my favorite but still a nice commentary on the whole fashion industry. I like the piano break in the bridge. It really does sound like she's walking down a runway on that part. ALRIGHT

    11. Fashion!
    - Some nice piano arpeggios to start into a struttin' disco beat. I can see why this came after Donatella. I can see some dancers Voguing to this. A pretty vapid song but it's catchy as hell. Will.I.Am & Guetta combined powers on this one. Even so it's ALRIGHT

    12. Mary Jane Holland
    - Madeon has a production credit on this. Dude is 19!! Beat is pretty dirty. Even so this song sounds like it would be better as an instrumental. It's a little too busy. Song is about weed and threesomes. I like the chorus and I like the beat but again, together it sounds like a bit too much going on. ALRIGHT

    13. Dope
    - Some dramatic piano. Sounds like the epilogue to the party she had on Mary Jane Holland. Simple and tasteful. This song really shows off her vocals. I get a Freddie Mercury vibe from this. Pulsating bass creeps in. BANGER

    14. Gypsy
    - More piano. Turns into an almost Coldplay stadium rocker before the Madeon drop. Big, open air, hopeful ore-chorus. Madeon hangs back on the noises which helps this song breathe into a giant chorus. This will kill live. B-B-BANGER

    15. Applause
    - Wasn't a fan of this but honestly as the LAST song I like it because it's kind of a comment on the entire album. "This is it, I hope you like. Fuck you if you don't I don't care. I'm taking a bow, I love the applause." ALRIGHT

Overall I like it a lot more than Born This Way. Production was on point. Lyrics aren't bashing you over the head with "THE MESSAGE". Damn good album!

    Bonus Tracks:
Applause (DJ White Shadow Remix) -
A slow burner into an almost Justice-like glitchy chorus. Drops from that into a Big Room breakdown. I could see SHM or Laid Back Luke dropping this. I like it.
Applause (Viceory Remix) - Oh snap those horns and organ. Into a reggae guitar dub drop?? Loving it. Toes the line between dub and electro-lite. I like this a lot.
Applause (Empire of the Sun Remix) -Eh. Kind of generic.

Uhhh, for Aura I like the music and all, but she's trying to make a cultural symbol sexual.
I don't know if it'll be any good but I might like one of the songs off artpop when it's released

I came from the EDM world (before it was called EDM) long before I started to love rock, rap and etc in the 90s. We use banger all the time haha. No Z though. And choon. "Man did you hear that new Laid Back Luke? What a choon!" "I know. Total banger."
