Hey all - so on May 19th, Mike and Chester interviewed on Kerrang! Radio. Now, this wasn't exactly a news-worthy interview, since there wasn't really a whole lot of new information. However, I did think the information was worthy of discussion. A lot of the discussion in some of the major news threads has been about Linkin Park's sounds on One More Light, but I wanted to provide room for discussion on something slightly different. Here are some choice quotes from the interview. On the topic of the new musical direction and "selling out": Chester Mike On the writing process, and 'Sorry for Now' Mike The interview dives into some other topics as well, including the music video for 'Heavy' and the differences within genres and sub-genres - it's worth a listen. I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on what the band has said here though. And I ask because I know there's a major diversity of opinion on here about the direction the band has taken, and the band (mostly Chester) has called out the critics accusing them of selling out and taking this "easy" or "soft" direction. So, regardless of how you feel, what do you think about what the band has said here?
Although I agree with Chester statements, but he is just feeding the trolls and haters. I understand the frustration but he seems to be losing his cool. And Yes I definitely think the new songs are very personal to the band but I find it incredibly hard to believe the statement that they didn't make any conscious choice regarding the sound of the record when almost all of the songs they wrote turned into super poppy stuff.
They try to take the best of him, they should go away (and suffer all alone in their misery). With every hateful comment, Chester is one step closer to to the edge. Also, Mike is sick of them acting like he owes them anything.
Well, this is nice. Maybe on LP8 we will have songs like "I cannot take this anymore" and heavier stuff.
Maybe this is a plan created by the old fans. Pissing off Chester so this will provoke him to do a heavy angsty record for LP8
All Mike said to do was calm down I remember. Now, I remember All Mike said to do was calm down pussy stab yourself in the face.
This is the second time he's lost his cool. I understand where he's coming from and that he's frustrated for fending off angry fans for the past ten years, especially how personal this album was, and I know it's good to vent it out once in a while but goddamn this was just rude. People will just spin this to make people hate the band more.
I hope this finally makes those fans who keep demanding LP make the music they want them too, and are hating on the band for not, fuck off and leave the fanbase. They have no place calling themselves LP fans. It is perfectly clear they are not wanted. As for this making them more likely to make an angrier record next time, that's bullshit. If they do it wont be because of idiot fans, if anything those idiots would make them more determined NOT to make what they want them to make.
Lyric for next album confirmed. "You don't know what you've got until it's gone." "...what doesn't kill us makes us stronger" Why not add in "Actions speak louder than words" and "Grass is always greener" and "You can't judge a book by its cover." next time around.
I'd been hearing about Chester's latest "outburst" but didn't know what was actually said until now and honestly, this is not as bad as I expected it to be. Of course what he said was downright rude and tactless but he made a clear distinction between people who just simply don't like the songs and people who say that they made this record solely for monetary gain. With the subject matter and messages present in this album, I can see why he has such a short fuse regarding that.
It's a good thing he took a step back, reflected on his behaviour and apologized. Hope he can make amends with it and never react the way he did.
Welcome. Btw those are not all his tweets, a few replies I left out but I retained the ones I felt was important.
Damn, Chester really needs to start watching his words. I get that he's frustrated, but he's just coming across as a twat saying these things. It's a good thing he apologized.
