Possibly an LPA chat client? I've seen Java based ones before, might be a good idea, could set members to have at least 500 posts to use it, which would avoid spam etc. Just an idea.
We've been thinking of a shoutbox but we're cautious to do it because we don't want to seem like we're intentionally biting off of LPL who has had one since they opened their forums. We DID used to have an IRC chat client but we shut it down due to lack of activity/interest. If enough interest is generated however, we may consider relaunching it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah I was gunning for more of the IRC thing rather than a shoutbox. Couldn't think of the name. ' An IRC would be a nice touch though :3
When the LPA had the IRC thing I went and there were only a few people online. But I agree, I think it is a good idea
The only thing is the IRC license costs money, so we'd only do it if we knew for sure we'd have a constant flow of traffic into the chat. Otherwise it's just not worth it.
I don't think an IRC thing would really be necessary, but quite a few forums around have shoutboxs nowadays, so i don't think the LPL would really care.
I would be interested in this. I can't say how often I would get on an IRC chat but if there was a chat built in to the website or a shout box, I would definitely use it.
I think it would sort of kill RT. EDIT: On second thought, no it wouldn't, it may reduce chatting WITHIN RT but people would still post in RT stuff that isn't necessarily "chatting" and that still spawns conversations anyways. So yeah, I am down for a chatbox.
I'd think itd be pretty cool id probably wouldnt end up using it anyway but it might be comical to see LPA'ers have quick convos amongst one another
I'm not the only one who pays for the site, but yes...it might cost money. Not sure. We haven't done much research on it yet cause we're not sure if the interest is even there.
I'm sort of ok with it but I don't like the money issue that it will (maybe?) bring. For me, I doubt I'll use it since we already have Random Thoughts. Plus if I needed to talk to someone personally I would just do it over PM, AIM, MSN or whatever. So I'm not sure...
