For all things metal. There hasn't been enough metal love on LPA since that last thread died. But it's back! So yeah... metal. Personally I love Opeth, Cynic, Agalloch, Death, Blind Guardian, Symphony X, DragonForce, Dream Theater, Cult Of Luna, Between The Buried And Me (fuck yeah), Iced Earth and Kayo Dot among others. Anyone listen to Cynic's Traced In Air? Probably the best metal release last year.
I honestly was never a very big fan of anything heavier than say, Metallica/Anthrax/Pantera/Megadeth...I even hated Slayer for a long time. That all changed last year when I tagged along to a club gig in Cleveland with some friends, the lineup was Symphony X/Epica/Into Eternity, and I was fucking blown away.
I'm actually more into shoegaze, dreampop and acoustic/folk stuff these days, but metal will always have a special place in my heart. genres be damned. clusterfuck of awesome metal bands below. Genghis Tron, Sinew, Torche, Sunn O))), Opeth, Otep, Shadows Fall, The Sword, One Dead Three Wounded, Between The Buried & Me, Arch Enemy, BORIS, Meshuggah, Mastodon, Lamb Of God, Made Out of Babies, the Dillinger Escape Plan, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree I miss Odaton.
Unearth, As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, Killswitch, Trivium, Metallica, Parkway Drive, Evergreen Terrace etc
Just my favourites here, I honestly can't be bothered posting every metal band I listen to. Also note I'm basically just listing my favourite heavy bands, so don't have a go at me saying "they're not metal, they're hardcore!" and such. Architects, As I Lay Dying, As Blood Runs Black, August Burns Red, Between the Buried and Me, Bring Me the Horizon, Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Evergreen Terrace, The Haunted, Nocturne-era The Human Abstract, I Killed the Prom Queen, In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Megadeth, Pantera, Parkway Drive, Protest the Hero, Opeth, Shadows Fall, Trivium, Unearth and on and on and on. That was hard.
I'm not too fussed about people posting core bands and such, i know whilst I only listed trve metal bands, a lot of people here only listen to metalcore and hardcore and such (for heavy music) so that's fine to talk about them. Oh man, Astat you would've been blown away, Symphony X are fucking epic and pro. The other two bands are pretty good too, Into Eternity seem pretty promising for the future, but they haven't quite broken free from metal boundaries yet. And Casey (i believe), that's a great list. I really need to get into Boris, Sunn O))) and Mastodon. And if we're counting Porcupine Tree as metal then FUCK YEAH for them. And Esaul, yes i also like Pain Of Salvation. BUT, that is not 'nuff said. I recommend Opeth, Porcupine Tree and Death. Death were so awesome.
Well, here I go, a list of all the heavy bands on my Ipod Bolded are favorites Architects, As I Lay Dying, Blessthefall, Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine, Cancer Bats, Cradle Of Filth, Dream Theater, Gallows, Glamour Of The Kill, Glassjaw, Gojira, Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, Machine Head, Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Protest The Hero, Shadows Fall, Slipknot, Soil, Stone Sour, System Of A Down, Thrice, Trivium, 36 Crazyfists. Theres probably more on my own computer, but right now I'm in a car on my dads laptop
I don't really bother with much metal these days. Metal bands on my Zen currently: Cancer Bats Cave In (Until Your Heart Stops) Every Time I Die (Hey, Brian Posehn says they're metal) Metallica Rolo Tomassi That's what's labelled as metal even though most of them probably lean more towards hardcore and mathcore.
<3 I've been leaning more towards the less traditional and (in some cases) more hardcore centric heavy bands as of late, such as-- Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Isis, Cult of Luna, Torche, Mastodon, Gojira, Meshuggah, (early) Cave In, Harvey Milk, Intronaut, Genghis Tron, Zao, Zozobra, Boris, Textures, etc.
Yeah. I wonder if the film increased their albums sales? Oh, and everyone should listen to Baroness and High on Fire.
Yes I'm Casey. And I said genres be damned. Sunn O))) isn't your typical metal, they lean more towards doom metal. Boris changes their style on every album. Porcupine Tree is like progressive/alternative metal.
In no particular order: Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, Stone Sour, Slipknot, Cradle Of Filth, Dragonforce, In Flames, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Kamelot, Children Of Bodom, Forever Never.
Avenged Sevenfold Bullet for My Valentine Disturbed Five Finger Death Punch Godsmack Killswitch Engage Kittie Metallica Mudvayne Otep Pantera Slipknot Soulfly Trivium 36 Crazyfists Eh, some of this is questionable but, yea.
