A stranger dispenses a dose of darkness from his ice cream cart in The Mars Volta's new video, "The Widow." A selection from the treatment reads like a childhood nightmare: "The man puts his hand in the cart and begins to pull out a black pudding like mush, which he begins to distribute amongst the children. He puts it in their hands, some of their faces and in their mouths, and they are hysterical over it, like a drug. Some of their eyes begin to cry black tears." MTV Premiere Windows Media Real Media EDIT: Go easy on this video now. It was Omar's first time directing anything, so it was bound to be not amazing. I like it. It's wonderfully weird. I realize it's quite cheesy/low budget, but hey, it's not really about the video now is it?
Well it certainly grew on me at least! I thought it was a good video! A wierd type of thing only Omar could pull off! Actually the Widow has gotten some major airplay on many radio stations, although I've yet to hear them in Canada! Personally, I love the song myself, and they stuck in some of the sound affects at the end of Cygnus B) I'm just glad they are getting some much deserved respect and attention.
Me & you both Odaton. As I said over at The Comatorium, I hope this gets play on Fuse and/or MTV here in the states. The Mars Volta is a great, great band, and they deserve every piece of press they get. Unlike alot of other bands, I don't think airplay/fame will ruin TMV's music. You just can't. If anything, TMV will break up for the same reasons that ATD-I did... getting bored with the music. "The Widow" is already on my local rock station's playlist, but it's not in their "Top 9 @ 9:00" show, which saddens me. :'(
One gripe, is that the song doesn't really showcase what TMV is all about, although there is some great fretless work by Juan, and glimpses of genius by Omar and Ikey with a cool organ fill. I wonder if they could chop out part of Cygnus (like the "Who Do You Trust?"/'Drunkship jam' part), or maybe the first bit of L'Via L'Viaquez, now that would be some wicked vibes. B)
I thought it was a great video, although a bit rushed (the part where the first guy's eyes start bleeding was rushed), it was still great.
Actually, to be totally honest, I only have 56k so it was only really screenshots so no moving clips. Maybe the video was crappy and my slow modem made it look better Nah, Omar can do no wrong
I don't see how it could possibly be rushed, they started filming this thing in Late November/Early December, IIRC.
