Haha. I expected something like that would come up

The thing is, the argument being made here isn't about musical talent.

I think that musical talent is about being able to play a load of musical instruments really well.

If that's the argument, I'd say it's very probable that Trent wins.

If we're talking about being able to play instruments well...
Dream Theater wins, any contest

Seeing as I despise Muse with every cell of my body, it's a knockout to Mr Reznor.

He'd literally knock out Bellamy too.

This is the best I've heard someone describe Muse:

"I once tied a couple of cats together by their tails and shoved them into a set of bagpipes filled with helium and chucked the ungainly contraption at Kate Bush's face. To my surprise, and utter regret, the resulting cacophony was a note-perfect rendition of Muse's entire discography including all hidden bonus tracks which may, or may not, actually exist."

So, my NIN-related thread is merged into the official one, yet this is okay?

    AWESOME.

Because it's Matt Bellamy? Why not just title it "Discuss Matt Bellamy's Song-writing Credentials" (credit to Cale).

I mean, I'm not looking to deliberately start shit with the staff here, but an explanation would be cool.

Mark was just looking for an eye-catching thread title.

He'll surprise us all tomorrow with a long essay on how Muse are really shite.

Instrumentally, at least, I think Matt's got Trent beat. I mean, Matt's a borderline piano virtuoso and a pretty amazing guitar player too, but it's a long-running joke amongst NIN fans that Trent's been playing guitar for 20 years and still sucks at it.

    I have a friend that's a classical pianist, and he's amazing.
I played him Just Like You Imagined once, and he's just sat there in awe, apparently Trent is an absolutely amazing pianist/keyboardist (sp?)

Even though I don't really like Muse all that much I will have to agree that Matt Bellamy is more talented than Trent Reznor.

Yeah, this really depends of if you mean song writing or technical talent. I would set Matt is better technically (albeit maybe with a lesser range of instruments) and Trent better at songwriting (and more original).

I also think Trent should get bonus points for having a better voice. I like both the singers but Matt's voice seems far easier to get ticked off at <_<.

I'm not going to agree with this statement in any way, but I absolutely adore Muse and Matt Bellamy, but I also like Trent Reznor. I prefer Muse over NIN so I may be biased, but watching Matt playing his guitar and the piano, it's just mind blowing, and I think Muse are a fantastic band musically.

There we go, that's my input

I'm gonna get lynched for this, but I've never found Trent Reznor that special. He actually gets boring sometimes. Sure, I like NIN, but Muse is a far better band. Matt Bellamy is an excellent guitarist, as well as a kickass pianist. Don't get me wrong, like I said, I do indeed like NIN, I just don't find anything really special about Trent Reznor.
