I was coming on here to post that too, Filip. I think Mike tweeting that article again amidst all the other Instagram photos tells us that the new album's focus is definitely the statements made in the piece. Bring on the rock music, LP!

I wonder if Mike's tweet was in reference to the release of midnight.

You're not crazy for thinking this. It was my first thought when I saw Mike's tweet. Why else would he say "Still true." and bring the article back up?

He should be. Actually, they all should be. I wouldn't want them releasing a record they weren't behind 100%.

Mike's just priming fans for the new album's sound like he does every album cycle with his press statements. It's actually starting to make me feel cynical about the guy.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Whether Mike directed that tweet towards Coldplay or not, we'll never actually know (I actually don't care at all), but it's definitely possible. Think about it. Coldplay is one of the biggest rock bands, they release their new song with a very unorthodox sound and Mike sends out his article. I think the recent tweet was a statement saying that just because Midnight is very different sounding and has people talking, doesn't mean it addresses the fundamental problems Mike has with the current rock scene.

We're speculating it is, as the release of "Midnight" has been a pretty big thing.

That he himself helped cause by "softening" his own music while being the most successful rock act in the world at one time. UGH IM SORRY IM JUST NEVER GONNA ACCEPT MIKE OF ALL PEOPLE SAYING THIS STUFF. /endrant

And yeah, I guess it could have a bit to do with the fact that one of the biggest "rock" bands in the world right now just put out an extremely mellow single. Then again, Foster The People's new stuff has been considerably more "rock" than their first album.

He wasn't like this before Living Things...

And guys, come on, I know you like Coldplay, but it's not THAT great of a deal...

I'd put it this way: if Mike didn't intend to reference Coldplay with that tweet, it was very ironic timing to re-post the article when he did.

I think you're going to have a tough time convincing some members here of that, haha. In all seriousness, though, let's try and leave talk of Coldplay and their new album here: http://lpassociation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40004.

^ This. People need to stop spreading unsupported rumours around here. Mike Shinoda's tweets and editorials are not reliable sources.

I would disagree. While Mike's tweets and essays don't give us new music, they do give us insight on his current mindset. As the undisputed creative director of Linkin Park, I think what he says holds a lot of weight.
