No one is into Mumford & Sons? For thouse of you who don't know, Mumford & Sons is a band from London playing a combination of Bluegrass and Indiefolk. Their first album hit 1# of sold cds in 2010, Linkin Park being 2# (If i remember correct, i also recall Mike saying that) Their first album ''Sigh No More'' is really worth a listen, so is this one! There's got to be more then just me who are excited about this!
Oh you are definitely not alone. I've been quietly jizzing to myself listening to Babel since it leaked lol. Still can't pick a favorite song.
I seriously thought I might have been the only one on these boards thats a fan. I've been waiting for so long for this CD!!! Good to see other fans!!!
Any stand out tracks for you guys? I have the deluxe version so there are 15 tracks to chose from but the ones that stick out for me(for now): Lovers Eyes: Nothing to far off from the live version. The song has been an aiding tool for myself well before the conception of Babel. It is my favorite hands down. Hopeless Wanderer: Mumford's traditional structure of start off slow and hit your ears with pounding strings. Broken Crown: Could easily see this as a single. One of my favorites. Just the ones that stick out so far. I love them all. Although I'm still getting used to For Those Below.
Do not like this album as much as the first. The songs have no depth. Each song is about a relationship towards a deity and it is just shoving it down your throat. Even the love-esque songs have a religious undertone that's very apparent. Needs more songs like "Little Lion Man", "Blank White Page" and "I Gave You All" Also the lyrics are weak this time around, "Sigh No More" had literary references and underlying meaning. All Babel has is,well, babel. Each song it's "god, hear me, save me, show me.......etc" Was expecting an amazing follow-up but instead I feel like I'm in church.
I can't disagree. There are, however, literacy references this time around again. I knew (at least Marcus Mumford) was an evangelist. Many of their live shows they played Amazing Grace. Sigh No More was much more gold. I knew what I was getting, as they have been playing most of these songs for 1-2 years in live shows. I share no creed, so like you I'm a bit turned off with some of the lyrics. It's far from Sigh No More but I still like it.
Indeed, it's nowhere as good as their first. The songs are superficial and i'm not really fond of the christian lyrics.
Yeah the biggest thing that I don't like this time around are the lyrics too. Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite lyrics are from songs based upon passages in the Bible, however they aren't as one-dimensional as this, and there are other ways to interpret them. That being said, I still really enjoy this album musically. My favorites so far are Lovers Eyes, Hopeless Wanderer, and Where Are You Now. I'm also glad they included their cover of The Boxer as a bonus track too.
Yeah, now that I'm listening to it more and more, I'm actually wishing they didn't just try to "perfect" their sound.
Babel is amazing. great album, need to relisten to the first some more and decide which I like better but I love Babel and this is the first thread Ive been in that has OP on ignore, at least the threads still show up even if you have OP on ignore
I will wait, babel, and The Boxer from deluxe edition are favorites so far! Thei ''the boxer'' is the only cover of that song i've liked better then the original.
In saying that I like Babel, Sigh No More is one of the best albums I've ever heard, and Babel is just good...
