I've been listening to bands from outside the US as of late and have found some really great stuff. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some other bands. It's kinda difficult to find music from other countries here in the US, the radio tends to ignore it. Damn radio

    I've been enjoying:
    Karnivool (Australia)
    L`Arc~en~Ciel (Japan)
    TISM (Australia)
    Heavenwood (Portugal)
    Siddhartha (Turkey)
    Oomph! (Germany)
    Amorphis (Finland)

    Australia (here we go):

    Kisschasy (alt rock)
    Horsell Common (alt rock)
    Arrows (90s indie emo sound)
Birds Of Tokyo (alt rock/singer of karnivool's other band)
Dead Letter Circus (alt rock/new prog sound sometimes)
    Circuits (raw/chaotic skramz thing)
    Cog (prog/alt rock)
    Alarum (jazz death)
    CrimsonFire (prog/power)
    The Drones (weird indie shit)
    Eleventh He Reaches London (awesome)
    Encircling Sea (doom/drone/post-metal/etc.)
Ivens (hip hop in the hardcore scene for some reason)
    Jericco (prog rock)
    Laura (post-rock)
    Lemonsmile (indie rock thing)
Mourning Tide (first ep was hardcore, nowadays they play 80s metal/rock n' roll influenced hardcore)
    My Disco (who knows)
Ne Obliviscaris (progressive symphonic folk black awesome metal)
    Quebec (skramz thing)
    Quiet Steps (skramz thing)
    A Secret Death (post-hardcore thing)
    Sleep Parade (prog/alt rock)
    Sleepmakeswaves (post-rock)
Snob Scrilla (indie/electro/hip hop - not really australian)
    Tame Impala (psychedelic rock)
Tangled Thoughts of Leaving (crazy shit, prog i guess)
These Hands Could Separate The Sky (post-rock, with vocals sometimes)
To The North (jazzy math rock thing, cool guitars)
Truth From Facts (really cool, post-metaly hardcore thing)

I've bolded the ones you should check out, if nothing else, though they might be a little hard to get into.

    ^ sweet ^_^

Bamboo is an alternative Filipino rock band. Their songs usu talks about issues in the gov't. 'Masaya' is their only sentimental heartbreak song.

This is just my eng translation to the song:

    I'm feeling down again
I've been drinking the whole night and still I can't sleep
I ask the heaven why I'm feeling pain right now
Before I used to be happy but now the agony wraps through my soul
    Why is love like this?
At first, it brings happiness but now it brings sadness

    Love is always like that
    Love consumed me
    At first, you feel happy

    When I woke up, I saw John(Juan)
A drug addict in our place
He said love is like taking drugs
You feel heaven the first time

    Masaya = Happy/Happiness
    Pag-ibig = Love

Midnight Oil are the best band Australia has ever produced, by a very long way.

I'd also recommend Parkway Drive (Australia).

    Yeah true ^

Oh, and Powderfinger! I never understand why they haven't broken through in the USA, they're huge here.

Silverchair of course, but that's nothing new.

Parkway Drive are boring. Yeah. So are Powderfinger actually. imo.

Metalcore in Australia can be pretty boring like every where else, but I recently found a band called Anime Fire who mix metalcore with breakbeats. Shit's good. Also Dead Kings are good (the australian one, not the psychobilly one).

The Living End from Australia -- rockabilly FTW. :) And Eskimo Joe ... and The Temper Trap, too, both also from Australia. Those are softer rock bands.

+ Killing Heidi, Little Birdy, Jet (don't mind some of their songs), Michael Franti and Spearhead, John Butler Trio, Powderfinger, Savage Garden, and as mentioned Living End, Eskimo Joe, and Silverchair.

For those of you who are into death metal might wanna check out Severe Dementia. They are from here (Bangladesh) and are pretty well known in other parts of Asia.

One Dollar Short were an ace band from Australia :)

I'm gonna go ahead and point out the obvious few now though:

    Enter Shikari
    Arctic Monkeys
    Muse
    The Prodigy

Well, If you like Karnivool, certainly check out the band "The Butterfly Effect" another Australian Alt. metal/post-grunge band that are pretty awesome.

Also (all from Australia, like me):
    Grinspoon (Alt. metal/Post-grunge)
Silverchair (Early = Post-grunge, later = Art rock) I can't beleive no-one has said them.
    Gyroscope (Post-grunge)
    Nina May (Female fronted Post-grunge.)

Also, from the UK, there is "Fightstar". I absolutely love them. Give 'em a go if you haven't already.

I saw Anime Fire support Deez Nuts a couple of weeks ago, they put on a pretty good show. On that topic also check out Deez Nuts, they're a sort of hip-hop influenced hardcore, fun band.

Atvena's Wake are pretty good too, it's fairly "generic" metalcore/melodic death metal with keyboards, but they do it well.

I'd also second Jordan's recommendation of Snob Scrilla, not really Australian but it's pretty good.

Notice the Australian domination in this thread.

I'm pretty sure three of us have said Silverchair

But yeah, I second Butterfly Effect.
