Psh, every band that's ever been called "emo" has people that will argue that they are or aren't emo. You might as well say everything is emo, or emo doesn't actually exist.

As far as I'm concerned, guys wearing eyeliner and girls pants singing about heartbreak = emo.

Thankfully, this MCR album isn't all about heartbreak. That's why I like it, and it's why I didn't like the songs I've heard from Three Cheers.

    scene not emo.

emo. sings about politics, loss of friends, and leaving home.

    not emo. sings about "heartbreaks".

emo was just a more melodic, less anti-authority form of hardcore punk.
so calling my chemical romance emo is like calling underoath hardcore / screamo.

I'm sorry to say this but all the "No, that's not emo. This is emo"-talk is really ruining this thread.

So anyway, back to the CD. I work at a bowling alley, so I took advantage of that last night and played The Black Parade over the PA system that we play our music on, during glow bowling.

It sounds better when you're surrounded by it.

Which reminds me that I need to re-install my CD burning program so I can get this thing on a CD. Even though I am going to buy it. Just don't have money right now.

After listening to this album multiple times I have come to conclusion that "Sleep" is my favorite song. It's just something about the instrumentation and the lyrics. I love it.

I still think Cancer is absolutely beautiful. They needed that song to be longer. But my favorites would probably be "I Don't Love You" or "The Sharpest Lives". The latter is just fun as hell to sing and has an awesome chorus.

I figured as well I would post a fan review (from somebody else actually) that I found on a site that reviewed the album. This in a sense is how I view the album.

the more i listen to it, the more i enjoy it and can relate to it. i still felt there's some areas like the drums that could be improved, but overall, it's a decent album.

and am i the only one that senses some parts in the intro of songs that were reused in other songs by them? like this is how i dissappered kinda sounds like the headfirst for halos intro?

Has anyone else noticed the choir in The Sharpest Lives? It sounds like it came straight out of a Danny Elfman song

Oh. And while I was listening to it on my iPod last night, I noticed a really creepy voice in Mama. I couldn't hear it on my computer though. It was odd.

Wow, that was totally unexpected of My Chemical Romance, to me at least.
It's a pretty good album, really. Definitely beat my expectations.
I'll have to listen to it some more.
My favorite songs after first listen are The Sharpest Lives and Mama (definitely the latter) with Famous Last Words up there as well.
    It's a good record.

After one listen I really like it. I wouldn't go sofar as to say that it's my top album of the year, but it's still pretty damned good.

Best release MCR have ever done.

I guess it could become top album after future listens though.

I'd like to thank you guys for raving like this about the album. I hadn't planned to listen to it because I simply wasn't an MCR fan. But last night (while drunk, actually.), I decided to download it via torrent and it has impressed me.

Has anyone ever read the lyrics to a song they've never heard before, and try to visualize what they think it will sound like? Well, I did that with "Cancer" and it was almost exactly how I thought it would be sung.

There is this voice on Mama that really sounds like Popeye the sailorman.
