The first band that i think about when I hear the term 'Canadian music' is Barenaked Ladies. Probably because they are awesome.
i actually like the song. i admit ive always liked nickelback. if you hear their albums and not only the radio singles, there are songs on it that are very much rock and in your face, but they will never be put out as a single for the simple fact: wont sell that much (im just assuming here of course).
They're actually huge and sell out venues in the western Canadian provinces (which one could parallel with certain southern American states), which is why we have gotten rid of them yet.
They're shit lyrics that a 12 year old could probably toss off in an afternoon, in the context of a shit song by a band that are mediocre at best. If it was another band they'd still be shit lyrics, possibly in a better song though. j/k I ONLI H8 NIKKALBAK CUZ ITZ KOOL LOL x
Dean we got the point. You're treading very closely to breaking our respect other people's musical tastes rule.
I think it's really hard to define any lyrics as "corny." Is any lyric that doesn't have some metaphor or college vocabulary considered corny? It's very subjective if you ask me. It's not a great song and I probably won't listen to it again but I really don't understand why it's SO BAD.
Sorry. It's more the "you only dislike it to be trendy" stuff than me actually having much against Nickelback.
I mean its not like they're coming out with something profound here. Oh they're for world peace and solving world hunger, how revolutionary (I said with more than a hint of sarcasm). Its cheesy and tired. Maybe this is just my inner punk rocker speaking but drop the hand in hand shit, put some heavy licks on it, and name drop a bit and we could have a decent song
I never said or inferred that: "Not saying this is the case for anyone in this thread, but it feels like some people hate them because it's trendy and cool." It was a general statement and I never accused anyone here of only disliking Nickelback to be trendy. Yeah, we need less songs about political and social activism. Musicians need to stop with the whole "save the world" shtick because it's sooo been-there-done-that. It's not like the message is going to get through to the millions of people who hear their songs. Chad Kroeger needs to go back to writing songs about getting head from his girlfriend. You can tell I'm well-versed in sarcasm as well.
That would be my problem with them. To me, Nickelback are the epitome of a band that straight-up refuses to evolve artistically.
lol social activism is great n all but they kind of suck at it. And at least when they were writing songs about sex we didn't have to talk about them, everybody just kind of knew they sucked XD There was no confusion back then lol
