i love them not literally but i love their music EDIT: heres a link to their talk of concept album HERE
A lot of people hate them because they view them as generic radio rock in the same vein as Fall Out Boy, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Yes, they write catchy radio rock tunes, but that doesn't mean they're a radio rock band. They happen to use a lot of experimentation in their songs, and their lyrics are all at once confounding and beautiful, and are almost always about a specific subject, like a book they read or something like that. Personally they're one of my favorite bands of all time.
It seems like a lot of people here like FOB, which is why it seems so strange to me that a lot of people trash P!ATD.
Ok, I have personally never seen Panic! live in person before but every performance I have seen from them has been absolutely horrible and it seems like all the costumes and circus antics are just to cover up the fact that they really can't play live too well. Now, I don't hate Panic!, I actually really enjoy their music, but I really have no interest in their live act at all.
They are bad live. A couple of my friends drove three hours to see them and said it was one of the biggest wastes of money they'd ever committed. I like the idea of putting on a show with their music, though. It makes it a lot more interesting instead of just watching four dudes on stage playing their instruments.
I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but I can't help but think of them as nothing more than a boy band, writing songs that to me seem to lack any emotion or effort in the writing. Instrumentally I think they sound horrible, and I'd hardly call them a rock band. They also seem to be the epitomy of the band that sells records simply 'cos they're all like "omg sooo haaawwt". I can't listen to them, they honestly hurt my ears. Especially the way the, errr, talker? sounds like a girl. I don't mean to put down anyone who likes them though, I'm sure theres some things I listen to that you'd all consider pretty pathetic
But they're not (hawt that is) . It's like LP, none of them are exactly good looking guys, but they have teenies anyway Either way, the band's not my cup of tea musically.
True. I guess the music industry/magazines/whoever else just tells these twelve year old girls that these guys have amazing looks, and they believe it.
I like P!ATD, but I don't think they're amazing by any means. They're awful live (IMO), but I quite willingly listen to their music. I can see why people don't like them, but hey, that's their choice. Everyone has different taste. However, a lot of people do hate them and put them in the 'emo' genre for some...odd reason I can't get my head around
Yeah. They're definitely not emo. None of their lyrics even come close to being emo, so it's as if people are calling them emo simply because of how they sound, and they don't even sound emo. I mean, they don't sound anything like Jimmy Eat World or Sunny Day Real Estate. On that note, I'm going to have to contest the fact that someone said they're a boy band. They write all their own music, they actually write songs that mean something to them (instead of the traditional 12-song album with 11 love songs and one song about hating everyone), and they're great entertainers, whether they're good live or not. Most boy bands sing what's written for them and all they do is dance on stage. Panic! does way more than that. I'm looking forward to their new album quite a bit actually.
everybody is dissing PANIC!'s live capabilities here...has ANYBODY heard their Live in Denver CD..it was great, especially their Covers Tonight Tonight (smashing pumpkins) and Karma police (radiohead)
i love them - they are great. however when i saw them live at the leeds festival last year they werent good
That's not an official release. They've only released two CDs thus far. As far as that's concerned, listen to them in person. They will change your opinion. Most live shows on CDs are mixed to sound good. I lied. It's an official release I didn't know about. But still, what I said holds true. Most "live" discs are mixed to sound good.
I loved them when they first came out but I'm not too into them anymore. I still love a few of their songs but overall I'm not a fan of them anymore. I Write Sins Not Tragedies is a legend song though.
i hate most of there songs but the song "Build God Then We'll Talk" is great and one of there songs i think it's called "there's a good reason these tables are numbered honey, you just haven't thought of it yet" is pretty catchy if it's the one i'm thinking of. Time To Dance or something is horrible.
