Last Resort Scars Getting Away With Murder Forever Lifeline You have to had heard these songs at least once. Papa Roach is one of my favorite bands. They have THE most energetic live shows you will ever see, trust me on that. That's what got me so into them. They have a live album coming out on the 31st, called Time for Annihilation. It's also gonna have 5 brand new tracks, the first single out of those being Kick in the Teeth. Catchy as hell.
I miss the times when they just would dress in plain black clothes and were not worried about their looks. Now they can be confused with just another emo band. Anyway, I liked them in the old days, up to Lovehatetragedy. Getting Away With Murder is way too poppish for my taste and I really didn't care about their last record.
You're calling Papa Roach emo??????????? Sorry but I just can't believe anyone would call them emo. If anything they're sleaze-rock ala Buckcherry, Motley Crue. Certainly not emo. I don't love Papa Roach like I used to. I think Lovehatetragedy and Infest were brilliant albums (albeit painfully rapcore) and Getting Away With Murder was awesome too but Paramour Sessions only had a few decent songs and I'm not really feeling their latest stuff at all. That said, I saw them back in 2005 and was blown away. Joe was at the same gig which involved Jacoby putting a bin over his head during the performance.
No, I'm not calling them emo, I just said their image has changed to jump to the emo bandwagon. with the make up, the hair-over-the-eye and stuff. Musically they have been consistent (except for the rapping no longer on their songs) but not as agressive as their old days.
Papa Roach do produce catchy as hell songs. But I do agree with the whole image thing, the whole guyliner thing doesn't suit them! Other bands do it and it works well as they look comfortable in it. But it doesn't suit Jacoby at all! Having said that I see their music as more rock then emo, without the rapping nowadays, which I kinda miss actually.
No, it wasn't to jump on the emo bandwagon. To be on the emo bandwagon, you need to be at least associated with emo music which Papa Roach aren't. Besides, Jacoby Shaddix is the only one who properly changed his appearence, and his look is based on old school rock n roll - Motley Crue was one of his biggest influences growing up.
"Scars", the single that got them noticed by the mainstream music listener again, was associated with emo, as is their look that they adopted at roughly around that time. I liked Papa Roach more when they were nu metal. Their rock stuff is still pretty good, but it doesn't hold a candle to more traditional rock stuff (Motley Crue, AC/DC, Buckcherry, The Who, etc). This song is pretty decent, too.
So what could be argued as the softest song on that album is selected as a single and they're automatically associated with emo? Sorry but no. Scars is about dealing with addiction. Hell, if we're going on song lyrics, their earlier stuff like Last Resort, Broken Home and She Loves Me Not are a far better example of what you'd call emo.
I agree with most people here, in that I love they're nu metal stuff (Infest, Lovehattragedy). After that they sort of slowly dipped away, with there last album being painfully boring.
Their last album was surprisingly good. But checked a couple of those new songs on youtube and they're nothing special.
Like I tell everyone else, you haven't seen Muse. Now that's an energetic, fun, and well-played live show. I think Papa Roach is okay. I think they're just another band, honestly. They haven't put out anything that I really like. I guess they're just not my type of band.
Actually, I have seen Muse haha. I love them to death, they're amazing, but I still honestly think Papa Roach brings more energy. Edit: Of course, that's due largely to the fact that a lot of PR's songs are very in your face, get up and move songs.
Personally, I thought that was easily their worst album. Absolute garbage in my eyes, but to each his own I suppose. It was akin to Metallica's "St. Anger" in my book.
I got the infest album at home, and ofcause heard alot of the singles... but meh They are only alright in my opinion, and in some interviews i heard with them they sounded very Snobby But i hope they do it(muscially) for others
