What would you say was Phoenix's best bassline on an LP song.

Minutes To midnight really showed improvement on Phoenix's part, he got really creative on 'Wake' & 'Bleed it out' and he was loud as hell on Given Up.

Part of Me probably had the best bassline but Brad wrote most of the bass on HT & HTEP although Phi wrote Runaway, A Place for my head & Forgotten.

maybe Forgotten had the best. especialy in the verses and Bridge. He made the song flow so well.

I think the band said that Leave Out All The Rest is Phoenix's best work, and I agree with that.

And MTM really shows best and more improved basslines from Phoenix.

    where?

"part of me" has my favourite LP bassline but i haven't been paying much attention to basslines since HTEP. phoenix wasn't even on that EP. kyle did the bass there, albeit brad probably wrote it and did some of it himself.

nonetheless, phoenix was on the post-EP demo (at least, i think he was) and he did the bassline there. ;)

Leave Out All the Rest is Phoenix's best work...and he doesn't even play bass on it live. The song does have a prominent bassline, but it's almost all whole-note roots.

People should also remember that Phoenix didn't play bass on any of the Hybrid Theory EP, any HT demos, or any of the HT album, so you can't really say Part of Me, Forgotten, etc., are any of his best basslines from a studio perspective. Granted he wound up playing most of the songs live once he came back, so from a performance standpoint you could still say it's his best work.

I'd say the best bassline he ever played in the studio is Wake. I'm pretty sure it's just him walking up and down pentatonic scales, but hell, before MTM came out I seriously doubted whether or not he or Brad even knew what a scale was.

Why doesn't he play bass on Leave Out All The Rest live?

I think Part Of Me is probably the best/most complex bass line in an LP song (if I remember it correctly), but as Tasta said, Phoenix wasn't around for the recording of the EP, so it hardly counts.

So yea, probably Wake is his best work. But you have to take into account that he writes guitar parts as well, the band said that he came up with the idea for the riff to QWERTY if I remember correctly.

pheonix has never really been a standout in linkin park, he normally plays what brads playing. On given up and loatr he plays on his own although the songs aren't to complex. As for just bass crawling sounds good on bass as well as forgotten, part of me and pfmh.

Because he plays guitar on it, the 2nd guitar part in the last chorus to be specific. Mike plays keyboards the entire song so he can't play guitar.

I didn't think they needed 2 guitar parts to play Leave out all the rest live.
Really the bassline on that was similar to the strings.

His work on Reading my eyes & Fuse were quite good too.

Toss up between Wake and Given Up. Forgotten is the best but that was Kyle Christner right?

Forgotten was Ian Hornbeck on Hybrid Theory and probably either Brad or Kyle Christner on the demo version. Phoenix played bass on the original Xero version of Rhinestone though, and that's literally the same arrangement, so you can still count it.

Ya i can hear the prevalent bass line and it fits the song perfectly. I like his new raspy sound on the bass like in NMS and in GU.

Phi plays guitar on the last verse live. When I saw it, he used Mike's old LP white/grey/black guitar.
