Has anybody else heard Rise Against's new album, 'The Sufferer and The Witness'? I saw the video for "Ready To Fall" the other night and decided to download the album. It's a really great album, one of my favorite of the year. It's mostly alternative rock with a small hint of punk and a little The Used mixed in there. All of the songs are catchy and well-crafted, and it's not one of those albums that's hard to get into. I'd definitely recommend it. What about their older material, want to recommend anything?
I don't have their new cd but, I really like their song "Ready to Fall". Some older good songs by them are "Swing Life Away" and "Give It All". I have only been listening to them since 2004, so they might have other songs and cds that have came before 2004.
Their best stuff was before Swing Life Away and Give it All, honestly. I used to love this band but it seems like they're one of many that's starting to change their sound and image to fit into the mainstream more ever since they started getting played on TV. Swing Life Away is one of the best campfire singalongs ever though.
I love their singles and some of their early stuff, and I liked The Sufferer and the Witness the first time I heard it, but it just got boring after a while. It's alright, but nothing really catches my attention all that much.
That is so true . My brother bought The Siren Song of the Counter Culture, I dont really know the song titles, but i liked what i heard when it was playing. It had a strong punk, alternative sound to it.
It's a pretty mediocre album compared to their older albums (see The Siren Song of the Counter Culture). I hate it, actually. There's nothing "alternative rock" about it. It's punk rock. Albeit not GREAT punk rock, but it's punk rock nonetheless.
It's got its alternative rock moments, for example in "Roadside", and in the chorus of "The Good Left Undone" and "Ready To Fall", off the top of my head. It is more punk-rock than I let on, though. Mostly punk-rock.
I didn't mean to come off as though I was better than you by "knowing" what genre the album was. That wasn't my intention. I know you didn't say that's how I came off; but reading back on it, that's how I did come off.
I haven't listened to the full album yet--it's sitting in the radio station library. I enjoyed Siren Song of the Counter Culture, but I don't think anything Rise Against has done could be considered great.
Rise Against got less punk but got better, unlike Escape the Fate who sold out because they obviously wanted more popularity. I know the Escape the Fate comment seems off topic, but I wanted to mention it somewhere because I just heard their new stuff and it differs so much from even their EP they released earlier this year that I am so enraged. Anyway, Rise Against has been getting better and better and I really love TS&TW a lot. SSotCC is pretty good, but I like the new stuff more. End scene.
