My theory of how this song was given the name Robot Boy, other than the "demo name that stuck" was that the song is very down tempo, and the vocals are portrayed in the same way for the first three minutes (same tone of voice and calmness like it is computing normally) then the "robot boy" has a digital breakdown like someone messed him up and he is going crazy (hence the screaming and chaotic synths). I really tried hard.....I listened to the song more then just a few times....but still it's the only song on the album that I don't like....yet your theory sounds legit
I absolutely love the song, but I honestly think it was just a working title and there's no grand scheme behind the name.
It seems likely, but it's a huge coincidence if you read my little idea on it. Any way I don't see the reason why people hate this song. It's simply a standout of theirs.
I saw it as a meaning behind the song despite it being just a working title at first. "you think theres not enough love and no one to give it to - you're sure you've hurt for so long, you've got nothing left to lose - you think compassions a flaw and you'll never let it show" - kind of like depicting a cold, emotionless person...similar to a robot? maybe?
Its interesting that when the tracklisting was announced the title "Robot Boy" caught the attention of many (myself included) My initial thought (upon hearing the title) was that it was going to be a heavily early Mike Shinoda influenced track, and in vain of songs like High Voltage / Dedicated. Couldn't have been more wrong.
These are my exact thoughts. This is much more plausible IMO. When I first read this song title, I definitely considered the possibility of it being more of a ballad than some electronic madness.
With all of the lyrics in mind, I'd say Robot Boy represents the target audience of those apathetic, wrapped up in the benefits and entertainment provided to them by technological advancement only to be unaware of the potential destruction it might bring. Apathetic, emotionless, but speaking words that may not have meaning. Robot Boy. That's what I think, anyway.
Here is my analysis of the song: A stand needs to be taken by someone, but no one will make one. Everyone is so self-centered and egotistical, they won't even fight for what is right. The monotone singing adds to the name of the song. The entire planet has, mentally, become robots. The weight of the world is keeping them from doing what is right. Nobody shows their feelings anymore and it is what is causing us to kill each other. In the end, it ironically turns out that all the destruction will create the person to save them all.
Basically, they chose it as a working title because they thought it ostensibly resembled the song, then it stuck anyway. That's probably all there is to it.
It's actually because Joe Hahn is really into childrens cartoons, named it as a joke, and the rest of the band not knowing what it was said ok. The songs about this guy;
i Keep thinking of "astro Boy" everytime i hear this song now Anyway. I love this song. terribly underated, the synth solo is incredible and chester's 'aaahs' & 'yeahs' on top of that make the song for me.
