Seriously, though, did you take the time to read the post you quoted?

Yes, it would be a waste of time. lol.

But yes, I agree with you. I just wanted to clarify your position. As far out as ATS was, every now and then a glimmer of pop would shine through. Blackout is a prime example in some respects.

So, "no" would be your answer? The quote you just posted from pretty much explained why comparing and contrasting doesn't work because it's not about the sound of the music. Pop is short for "popular" guys. Like indie is short for "independent". I don't know when these two ideas got skewed in to some sort of genre with a specific sound, but that's not the case. Linkin Park is pop music, but it's genre is nu-metal/electro-rocker orgasms/alternative/lincolnparkwasanunavailablewebsite/Mikesaysandyoulisten. Simple as that.

An example, yes, but hardly a prime example; "Burning In The Skies" and "Iridescent" are the most blatant pop numbers on "A Thousand Suns", in my opinion.

    I agree
    Where did you here this?

and as for Pop, i still don't think Linkin park is pop. Let's take an example. Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven by kenny Chesney. It has a simple progression throughout the song, what i would call a catchy chorus, but it does not sound anything like pop. It's a country song. LP has never been pop, sure they have had simple compostiion throughout all thie rearlier songs but that shouldn't be called Pop IMO

This is true. Portions of blackout are. It just stuck out to me because of the dancy feel and the synths. Let's refer to the checklist.
    Head nodding? Yes
    Catchy, easily relatable lyrics? Yes
Heavy bridge around 2 min? Yes
Predictable song structure? Somewhat... An unexpected ending.

But yes, BITS and Iridescent are definitely blatant, I agree with you there. And let me make myself clear; I am totally okay with pop aspects in their music. I still listen to ATS with regularity and enjoy it more and more everytime.

It's not necessarily about 'simplicity'. 'Pop', as we're discussing, is defined by a set of compositional characteristics rather than a certain 'sound'. 'Country' songs may not sound like dance-pop, but both styles of music have ideas in common, such as a strong focus on harmonically-pleasing melodies and chord progressions. ;)

Pop music, as a genre, is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles throughout its course such as urban, dance, rock, Latin and country,[1] yet there are core elements which define it. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format which is often the verse-chorus structure, which generally make usage of repeated choruses, have a melodic sound, and have catchy hooks.[1]
