Salem is Heather Marlatt, Jack Donoghue & John Holland. All I really know is that Mr. Holland used to be a teenage prostitute, and was addicted to heroin. Possibly crack, as well. Their debut EP was titled, "Yes, I Smoke Crack". I'm pretty sure Heather and Jack have just as disturbing back stories as John, though I'm not sure what they are. Rarely do they do press or go into detail about much of anything. This is something very, very different. "King Night" is their debut album, and it's mind-blowing. My favorite this year, definitely. It's a strange blend of chopped and screwed hip-hop, shoegaze and electronica. "It's the world we know. A world of violence and abuse is what we see, so it's what we write." (one or more of these aren't safe for work) "Trapdoor" "Dirt" "Legend" "Skullcrush" "Asia" "OhK" "Frost" Oh yeah, check out their remixes for Gucci Mane, HEALTH and Radiohead, too.
Skullcrush, Asia, and Frost were the only ones I loved. I don't even think I liked the other ones haha. Pretty weird music. When it works, it hits hard.
I FUCKING LOVE WITCH HOUSE/DRAG. the end. Salem album is pretty fucking sweet. King Night's an amazing track. Check out Horse Macgyver -formerly known as ///▲▲▲\\\ (yeah seriously)-, oOoOO, White Ring, Mater Suspiria Vision and Modern Witch. Shit's creepy as.
