Earthquake about half an hour ago measuring 4.7 (apparently) on t'scale. The epicentre being little more than 30 miles southish from me. Would have posted this earlier - but talking to people I was actually with was slightly more important. "Shaking like a shitting dog" is a slight euphemism for my actual feelings. Any other folk around UK feel it? To broaden it out a bit: you lot been in any sort of potential natural disaster?
I was in an earthquake when I was little back in Cali... all I remember is falling out of bed and crawling into a corner and curling into a ball. More recently, a few years ago my parents decided the family was going to take a vacation in Cancun... 2 days before Hurricane Emily hit. That was... interesting to say the least. Ordering free drinks and sleeping in bathtubs.
Yeah, I felt it. Absolutely shit myself. I was trying to figure out what it was for about half an hour, all sorts of crazy shit was going through my head. Because earthquakes aren't exactly common at all over here, it was quite scary, heh.
I've experienced a quake way back in 2001. It lasted for approximately 1 second though. But still the feeling was unreal. And last year was just devastating: multiple flooding and a killer hurricane, SIDR . The flooding didn't affect my region though. But it rained heavily non-stop for 3 to 4 days when the latter hit.
4.7 Mercalli or Richter? Either way I don't think it's a very strong earthquake, we had 4.5 on Richter a couple of days ago just 20km from me and I didn't even feel it. But I guess I can be scary if you do feel it and you're not used to earthquakes.
I didn't feel it because I was asleep however I know my parents did. Dusan: I think it was 5.3 on the Richter. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7266136.stm
About 4 years ago there was one in Holland, it was in the morning and it woke me up. I was wondering why my lamp kept hitting the roof.
There was an earthquake here once but it was very small. I remember when I was little I got trapped inside a mall during a tornado. We couldn't leave because the tornado was literally just outside the mall. It was intense.
Right, and I just checked the one we had was 3.5 not 4.5 so I guess 5.3 is not as light as I tought. Hope no one's injured.
Yeah I felt it last night. It didn't really bother me to be honest. With this shitty house, even if a car goes by sometimes the whole house vibrates. The thing that annoyed me most was my Mum yelling ''what the fuck's going on?!" as if world war 3 had just broken out.
In fairness - that's the exact thing I said. Then I sort of clinged to Mr. Bandwagon and the rest of the fellas there for a bit.
Really..? I felt one in Portugal about 6 years ago. I was sleeping and then the whole room started to shake "MOOOOOM!"
I couldn't tell you if there has ever been an Earthquake here in Illinois. If there was one, it was extremely unoticable.
I believe that a chimney fell off a house and crushed someone but I'm not sure. That's the only thing I've heard though.
Everyone was talking about it in English today, saying stuff like "omggggg i felt it", and i was sat there thinking, "there was an earthquake?! So yeah i didn't feel it.
Yeah it fell through a roof and broke some 19 year-old's hip. Apparently insurance companies throughout the UK are paying through the ass at the moment because of the damage.
Hahaaaaaaaa! Here in Athens we experience earthquakes almost every day! I'm used to them...no problem!
