Argh this is really annoying. Everytime i try and play this song (Brit & Alex - Let It Go) in iTunes it makes this really horrible scratchy sorta sound for a second then it stops.
I've tried downloading it from different places but it does the same thing everytime.
So right now i only have some crappy youtube ripped version.
Does anyone know why it keeps doing this?

Try playing it with something else. See if VLC plays it. www.videolan.org

Let us know, then we can determine if it's the mp3, or if its iTunes. :)

Yep, try VLC player. A lot of files which don't play in iTunes/WMP works in VLC. Also, you might want to update your iTunes if it isn't updated. :)

Like others have said, try VLC or KMP. KMP isn't really poplular but it's a pretty good program in the end.

Oooookay i tried that VLC thing and it wouldn't play. Well, it did something for 1 second then it stopped (like the track was 1 second long). And it kept doing that everytime i pressed play.

Does it do that with only that song, or have you tried other music files?

It might be the file, actually. I downloaded a song one day, and it messed up during the process of downloading. Either that, or iTunes might be corrupted somehow. I'm not too familiar with it, so I can't really help you a whole lot.

I know what it is. You downloaded this off p2p didn't you? (limewire .. etc etc)

There are people who share screwed up portions of songs so when it gets pieced together for your end-download it's screwed up. This usually ends up with the song not playing, or like you said, making that screechy semi-metallic sound and ... yeah. Get another copy of the song.

you could use xillsoft and convert it to an mp3 again and put that file somewhere else and see if the new file works... Ive had similar things happen to me before
