Holy fuck. Talk about unexpected. I think the band will be going on at least a short hiatus after the tour, which is a bit sad, but... At least we get a new album soon. "A Head Full of Dreams" sounds like a combination of "A Sky Full of Stars" and "Always In My Head", which makes it the most Coldplay album title ever. I think right now I'm on the edge of really happy and really sad.
Yeah, I'm feeling the same way too. I was thinking about this earlier and I'm not really sure how to feel. At least it doesn't sound a like a goodbye for good, sounds more like a hiatus. Hopefully this album will be huge, at least then I won't feel so bad about them taking a break. "We're making things that sound different" Well, at least I have that to look forward to.
Probably worked on it stimultaneously woth GS, and kept the more energetic songs for this album, and the more lowkey ones for GS.
Didn't Chris Martin say that Viva La Vida would be their last album...or something like that? I feel like he's pulled the "this is our last album...SYKE" act at least once.
There were rumors of Coldplay disbanding in 2005/06. Then he said Coldplay would disband in 2009. Then in 2012 he said there'd be a three year hiatus. So yeah.
He did say "we're approaching it as their last album", which means their mindset is that they're making their last album, but in reality it's hopefully the start of something more.
http://www.altwire.net/2014/12/07/coldplay-reveals-final-album-heres-shouldnt-panic/ Just putting this here to supplement your post. ...yeah the permalink is weird but I'm not gonna change it now haha.
So while the thought of a final Coldplay album will always a hard pill for any of us swallow, ‘Don’t Panic’ and ‘Don’t Let It Break Your Heart’ just yet. Because if Coldplay’s history is of any indication, this isn’t the end, and the show will most certainly go on. Time will only tell. Mattison Keesey forgot a word, Derek. " Coldplay album will always a hard pill for any of us swallow" should be " Coldplay album will always be a hard pill for any of us swallow" And referencing Linkin Park in a Coldplay article, have he no shame?
maybe after A Head Full of Dreams, the band will explore new things, new sound, new inspiration for the upcoming records. maybe some of the folks took it too literal.
