LPU XIV launched on November 21. This XVLP thing ends today. You can expect it on Monday or something.
Ah, Pictureboard. One of NATURE'S MYSTERIES. If what former LPU member Adam said a while back is anything to go by, Pictureboard may actually severely disappoint/underwhelm us if it ever sees the light of day.
Yes, I have the Xero mixtape on my iPod. Really legendary stuff If the quality of the recordings had been a lot higher, the songs themselves would have likely turned out better. What do you think about Coal, though? I consider it to be one of the most unique instrumentals from LP. I really dig its old-school vibe.
I think it sounds unfinished but pretty good. There are definitely some really great instrumentals among those LPU exclusives. "Halo" is one of my favourites
Don't know the history here. What is it about that specific track that makes so many fans desperate to hear it, I mean there are a load of other unreleased demos that fans have never heard, why is this one special? From what I've heard about it, it doesn't seem anything to get excited about.
This song is hyped up because it was actually played live, but nobody got a recording of it (i think)
I guess it's "special" simply because it's the very oldest of the unheard demos that've been confirmed to have existed. You kind of just had to be there, maybe, when the whole thing started. When you look at it rationally, yeah, it doesn't make much sense EDIT: really, it's just a joke that's self-sustaining now
It's because it was merely mentioned as existing... I think it was mentioned on the Pankake Festival DVD, but I am really unsure about that...
Mike first brought it up in an LPU chat in 2005. At the time it was mentioned as being a Xero song that they performed live exactly once ("around 5 years ago"), and that it was the only time they had done a Xero song live with Chester, excluding songs like APFMH, Forgotten, and Runaway that originated as Xero songs. It's appealing to us because there aren't a lot of songs we know about from the Xero era, and it's also come so damn close to seeing the light of day. It's one of a very small number of unreleased LP-related songs that actually has an entry on the BMI catalog (the only others I can think of are Mike's theme song for This is Life with Lisa Ling, and the "Tampa Finals" track he did for Rob Dyrdek's film Street Dreams), and supposedly it was on the original LPU 9 tracklisting but was swapped out for Across the Line at the last minute due to sample clearance issues (Mike has said in more recent years that Pictureboard has uncleared samples in it and can't legally be released).
I did remember reading about the sampling/licensing issue a few years back. That being said, I still think it will be a huge let down as it wont live up to the mysticism that has surrounded it for over a decade now. It's been said on more than one occasion that it wasn't very good. Whether that's trolling or sweeping under the rug, I couldn't tell you.
