I don't really get their music. I love it alot but Frances The Mute has 5 tracks and 4 they are 10 minutes +. Are they trying to tell a story tale or something? I don't understand what their music is about :/ Can someone fill me in.

The Mars Volta rocks! But on to Frances the Mute (a kick-ass album, by the way), there's another thread on the forum that talks about the meaning of the album. Lemme go quote it...

Well first off here's the tracklisting:
Which pretty much means that the songs are so freaking long that they are split into chapters, and these songs all tell a story. But the story (as long as it is) isn't complete.

And to clarify, here's a post from the old topic that pretty much cleared everything up:

Because we totally don't have enough Mars Volta threads

But yeah. The only song I know by them is the Widow (thank you Casey) which I like quite a bit. I'll probably buy the new album when it comes out, if I can find it somewhere on sale or used...

I had an idea to make an official Mars Volta thread.

This thread just further proves my point that it needs to be done. :p

Minus Xero - Thanks for using my quote! :p

And there are never too many TMV threads, Whimsicality! Btw, you'll be in for quite a shock when you hear the rest of the album! Quite different from the Widow, but still just so amazing! They always sell their albums for cheap...I got "De-Loused" for 10 bucks, and I'm thinking "Frances the Mute" will be about the same. 'Cassandra Gemini' is just woot woot (w00t), I love the saxamaphones in the song

I prefer At The Drive-In myself. Cedric Bixler is great.

Am I the only one who thinks that their oldest songs are the best?
