I see plenty of threads these days about metal bands, so I figured I'd make a mega-discussion-shit-thingy.

Basically, discuss all genres and subgenres of metal here, post your favourite metal bands and subgenres, etc. no Linkin Park allowed. if there's a thread like this, then fuck, because this took me 20 minutes to think up and write.

My personal favourite genres are thrash metal and death metal, and a few of my favourite metal bands would be Pantera, Children of Bodom and Strapping Young Lad.

I hope Bodom's 2007 release will fucking kick.

    i don't like metal.
but i do dig grindcore if you rule that as a sub-genre of metal.
bands like the number 12 looks like you, dr. acula (long island baby), converge, and botch are pretty good.
even though converge and botch are more math metal.

Ahhh. Metal. I love Thrash, Death, a bit of Groove, Viking metal and others a bit. Mainly Thrash and Death though. Favourite bands are probably Pantera, SYL, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Damageplan, Metallica (not Shitallice. I.E pre-Black Album Metallica), Apocalyptica and Tyr.

I'd just copy everything Dave said, since he basically got me into metal so I share the favourites.. yeah. But in addition to those genres, I'll add folk metal. I'll listen to any decent folk metal, since the local band sort of caught my interest in that. And keep the thread going people.

Lamb of God's stuff is fucking good, AotW aside.

my favourite death metal bands would probably be Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Death and Cannibal Corpse.

Kay-Theatre Of Tragedy is a great folk metal-ish band.

As I Lay Dying/Alexisonfire? Alexisonfire's Watch Out COULD be considered a metal album.

AILD is basically Killswitch Engage without the melodic choruses. They have a couple though.

Long Island has some really good metal bands. I think that's where Suffocation is from.
