Thoughts/comments about the CD? I personally think it's a big disappointment. Pen & Paper is the only song I really like and that's probably because it sounds like it belongs on Don't You Fake It. They waited almost three years in between releases - hopefully this is that "so-so sophomore album" bands tend to have. Here's to hoping the next album kicks ass
They changed their sound completely which comes as no suprise to me since the first single they released was god awful, i had a feeling this would all suck. Their entire screaming element is pretty much gone and in return they fed us this shitty generic rock sound... to me it sounds like they tried to go a bit retro classic rock maybe but his voice just doesn't belong in it... I tried to listen to it as if it wasn't RJA so I couldn't be disappointed but wow... it still sucks! The reason why they waited like 3 years between releases is because they gained such a strong fan base with the first album, I honestly felt the first album was a but mediocre with some high points but a lot of dull songs that had to really really grow on you. But they had been touring forever between albums and I think they even took a lot of time off and went home to Florida to relax. I think they shot for something new, when they should have just improved their old sound and not reinvent it. They are gonna piss of a lot of fans with this but like I said, their fan base is so huge and dumb anyways, I'm sure a many will follow them to this phase...
Definitely was looking forward to this, even after You Better Pray but this album is absolute trash. No creativity, boring, bland, and horribly written. I would rather listen to Metro Station than this.
I listened to the album and I loved it. I guess I am proud to say I am one of their dumb fans that are going to follow them.
I'm pretty disapointed. I had much higher hopes than this; but my actual expectation was an average album, and I got a below average album. And the sad thing is I strongly doubt they'll ever return to their former glory.
Ironically, if you replace Red Jumpsuit with Linkin Park and Lonely Road with Minutes To Midnight, you'd pretty much have the mainstream rock fans' reaction to MTM.
I think Rolling Stone described it the best when they said, "Winter goes for inspirational platitudes all over Lonely Road, which suits a band that thanks God in its liner notes. But despite a couple of winners — see the very catchy, Fall Out Boy-ish "Step Right Up" — little in RJA's tunes inspires. The band skips between emo pop and orchestral pomp while applying plenty of major-label gloss. The result: Much of the time the Jumpsuits end up sounding like a lesser version of Hawthorne Heights."
It's a horrible, horrible album. Though to be honest I never was a huge fan of them before this, they were at least okay. This on the other hand, is not.
Do you feel like a man, when you push her around! Do you feel better now, when she falls to the ground. Still a great song.
Article. Well, at least they won't attempt to sing "Godspeed" live... for now anyways (I also find it funny how Elias left, everyone bashed him, and now he's probably the luckiest guy in the world.)
Sorry for the double post, but seeing as the CD was released today, this review I found on Amazon has got to be posted - "With LONELY ROAD, RJA has created a diverse, stunning rock record that is a huge artistic step forward for the band. Led by the blistering first single, 'You Better Pray,' the album forces listeners to stand up and take notice. With songs ranging from the sprawling title track, evocative of Temple of the Dog to the gorgeous, almost do-wopinfluenced 'Believe' to the more signature, RJA-sounding 'Pen and Paper,' Lonely Road is an album that is certain to establish the band as one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
