Okay, I know about five months too late in making a thread about this amazing album, but the last thread about this died back in October so I'm making a new one. Who else thinks that this album was one of the best releases of the past year? I personally love "Music Box", "For Miles", "The Earth Will Shake", "Red Sky" and "Of Dust and Nations" the best. Although this album was referred to as Thrice's 'softer' album, I still think its as powerful if not more power than The Artist In The Ambulance. Putting it simply, I didn't listen to this album when it was sent to me a few months back cause I thought it was really soft (I never listened far enough into some songs to know that wasnt really the case)....then just last week I heard it in Sam Goody, was blown away and I bought it. Definetely will be one of my least regretted music purchases this year .
Glad you actually listened to it. Back in October you claimed it was softer. It is by far one of the best albums I've heard to date. Favorites include Image fo The Invisible, Of Dust and Nations, Red Sky, but the most important and outstanding track to me would have to be Like Moths To Flame. They put a lot of work into this album and came out with an amazing product. Derek, if you like those tracks I suggest you search for the bonus tracks: Lullaby, The Flags of Dawn, and The Weight of Glory. Lullaby sounds more like it should have been from Artist In The Ambulance, but it's still great. The other two are both amazing tracks and jsut extend from "Vheissu".
Odd..I got the special digi-pak packaging (at least I'm used to that meaning special edition) and I got no bonus tracks. I will definetely try and find those though. "So put your faith in modern steel, Dont store your treasures up with moth and rust, Where theives break in and steal, Pull the fangs from out your heel, We all live but in a shadow of the real.." ^^ lyrics like that are why this album is amazing. Anyone notice this album has a nautical, imprisonment..and dare I even say..religious theme to it? Very different message this album contains.
No matter how much I love The Artist in the Ambulance or The Illusion of Saftey, I have to say that Vheissu is just sheer beauty.
If you ordered the album from Thrice or their labels site, you recieved a 7" vinyl, which featured "The Weight of Glory" and two other tracks, which were on the album. If you ordered it from Best Buy, you recieved a code that allowed you to download "The Flags of Dawn" and the fifth segment of their podcast. "Lullaby" was featured in Burnout Revenge, although I am pretty sure it was found elsewhere too. So, unless 6 months ago you pre-ordered from Best Buy or Thrice, you're stuck with buying either the soft case (comes with a 30 page booklet on the album), or the hard case, which is just another boring hardcase.
you dared and i agree, it has some religious themes, i haven't listened to the whole album the whole way through yet, but just image of the invisible, i can take religiously.... talking about how we are the image of an invisible being (god), but we're more than flesh and bone and air, etc. we have souls, etc.... glad someone else finally sees what i'm talking about, lol
'Vheissu' is an amazing album, but Artist in the Ambulance takes the cake for their best album ever, that album has so many great memories tied to it for me. And for the sound, someone said this in another thread I remember reading, that this is kinda what Chester said the album would be like...'dark, poppy, melodic, etc...' So if Rick Rubin takes Linkin Park into this direction...it will easily kill Hybrid Theory as their best album IMO. Im praying for that! Thrice is definetly one of my fav bands ever.
I made that mistake. D'oh. 'Vheissu' is a great album. It has such a variety of songs, from melodic, to up-tempo, to heavy, to dream-like. It's truely one of those albums you can lsiten to all the way through and not get bored of, because each song is nothing like the one previous.
i was one of the persons who brought up the idea of the new lp album being similar to "Vheissu". im glad you finally found your way to this album, derek. as you might remember, i was hyped about this album months ago, but you quite ignored me . "Vheissu" is a masterpiece, even though i dont like all the songs totally.
I'm pretty sure I told you that you should have bought the soft case version. You may still be able to find it around here. I don't see Image of The Invisible as a religious song. I see it more as a protest song. I can safely say that Hold Fast Hope probably has the most religious background of all the songs. I find these songs to have more than one background, so you can find any meaning behind it. Love Thrice for that.
the earth will shake beautifully describes prison, one of my favorites. i am hoping to see the in edmonton for the TOC tour
Vheissu is an amazing album. Thrice always makes an album with a different sound but it can always be recognized as Thrice. Teppei Teranishi is my guitar hero alongside Lee Gaze and Mike Einziger. I can't wait to see them on Friday at Taste of Chaos.
Vheissu is an awesome album. The reason why I bought it was because you guys in the LPA were talking about it. You just reminded me about how pissed off I am that the Taste Of Chaos tour cancelled it's Vancouver show. dammit
