I just wrote this and I don't know how I feel about it yet. Tell me what you think. Trials You took a hint, forgot high class Always knew but never asked When every dollar hungry protégé Put on the old beggar's face You said you shouldn't have to care You'd leave and life would meet you there I know wherever that might be You'll have a place out there for me So think fast and down the drinks we stole Like trouble's got a face to show Like we've got more than just a room My brother, me, my conscience, you For what it's worth they let us sleep And cloud or heads with thoughts like these So as if to fuel this drive to go You said to me out on the road, "I'm gonna steal like I have the right Like any chaser on any night Bloodshot, black eyed, and written off As a deadbeat monument to life So let the glasses pile up What's mine is yours if it's enough And though I'm in this for myself I'll never count the wide-eyed out" But there's a stillness in this place Like air in empty concert halls Where once we were up on that stage Before the crash, before it all collapsed I think that sometimes we forget What drove us to face what was left To shout it over any crowd To fill our lungs and hearts with vows
