Anyone listen to OSTs from video games on a (fairly) regular basis? I find myself listening to the Final Fantasy (mainly VII - XIII-2) OSTs at work a lot as they are really ambient and help me focus. Not to mention I love the series to death. Nobuo Uematsu is a genius in my opinion. The man makes pure magic on a lot of these tracks. Despite its obvious flaws and outdated graphics now, still on the top of my favorite games. I certainly listen to a lot of OST's but more movie OST's. I do listen to some game OST's (like Final Fantasy, AC, Kingdom Hearts, etc.). And like AkirraKrylon, I like OST's mostly because they're mostly ambient and therefore (at least to me) very relaxing to listen to! Glad to see so many people like OST's!
Yeah Lord of the Rings has a pretty awesome soundtrack. And Gladiator, it's Hans Zimmer, for me that's an instant like. That's guy's a frickin' genius. I was watching Contagion yesterday, that movie has a sweet OST too! Kind of Trent Reznor'ish, really recommend both the OST and the movie! Also a pretty sweet OST is that of The World Ends With You. It's basically a lot of J-pop but so damn addictive!
I gotta check out Contagion! I wanted to see the movie but never got around to it, but I always imagined it would have some creepy OST The World Ends With you Honestly, any JRPG will have an OST that is appealing to me lol Disgaea 4's OST is another. Again, J-Popish but really cool! By the way, if you can get around to playing this game (If you're into the strategy RPG thing) it is excellent....and the story is ridiculous and hilarious lol. I wouldn't call it creepy but it's a bit unnerving yes, like it kinda makes you feel a bit uncomfortable which is a perfect fit for the movie. Haha yeah Disgaea is pretty hilarious. I have Disgaea 3 on my PS3 (still need to finish that game though, kinda lost interest after playing it a lot). Even though I'm not wow'ed by the music there, it's certainly not bad at all! Persona games also have great music (again JRPG haha )
I'm going to go into a PS1/PS2 RPG marathon soon enough with all this talk.... Another great OST (Though I haven't played the game, my friends pointed me to this soundtrack/this song specifically...I almost like the game already just because of the music).
