Mike Shinoda took part in a Linkin Park Underground Q&A session earlier this week following an exclusive screening of The Raid: Redemption for LPU members in Los Angeles. This gave LPU members a chance to ask Mike about a number of topics including how the new Linkin Park record is shaping up. Mike goes on to say that the Kerrang! interview with Chester was taken out of context, in regards to their front page headline "the guitars are back", as Chester clearly never worded it this way and specifically said it's not metal. Mike follows this up with the key thing to take away from the interview is that the band are feeling comfortable in their own skin and the best way to describe it at this point is "new and old all together at once". He also says the album is tentatively set for a release of Summer/early Fall 2012. Check out the full clip below courtesy of LiliVamp10.

Editor's note: Some of you may have noticed that the Kerrang! feature has appeared on a number of music blogs and websites over the duration of this week with a multitude of headlines claiming that Linkin Park are "going back to their roots" or "eliminating electronics from the new album" and even "returning to nu-metal". I just want to reassure you that this article has been taken out of context a lot and to please read the interview yourselves and see what Chester actually says, as a lot of it is being misquoted or misinterpreted. Thanks.

Thanks to mikeshinodaclan for the tip!

I agree. It's not very often you see an editor's note on our news stories, but I really felt the need after reading some of the headlines music websites have been using.

Best thing about this clip? Mike mentions the dinosaur again. :dino:

    THANK YOU MIKE.

About time that shitty article gets put to rest. They deliberately took Chester's words out of context. Btw, we're working on getting some 1080p video from this Q&A. Should have it by this weekend.

I'm really glad he got the chance to clarify some things up, that last article put everyone way out of control and things were so taken out of context it's almost absurd for me to go back to that thread. Best thing for us is just to read the news or articles and don't dig too much on them since editors can put twist to their words, it's just something media does to draw attention and/or make some "good headlines" to attract readers.

Only thing I didn't like quite much was that "summer/early fall" thing, by default I don't have much idea how that works since I live in the tropic and can't tell when exactly does a season begin, but summer already looked quite far for me, don't want it to be at fall xD, I want this album to come out ASAP, lol.

It's nice to have the guys turn up every now and then to give us a heads up about the album progress whether in chats, interviews or events like these, at least we are informed.

Think more of the lines of an August/September release.

There are also two other things I liked about this video besides the dinosaur comment. :dino:

    1. He mentions Christopher Nolan.

    2. He has just pretty much reaffirmed my thoughts about the next album 100%. The way he talks about not skipping instruments for the sake of it and using what instruments fit the songs the best is exactly what I said in the previous Kerrang! thread:

Thank god. The dead horse is feeling beat the fuck up. Even in death. But it's okay since I'm not liked.

So in short, this album basically sounds however the fuck they want it to sound. No boundaries, no restrictions because "it's too weird" or "too familiar". They're just doing what they think sounds the most pure and the most fucking awesome. Which is good enough for me. :WTF:

To quote a little Fort Minor...

"Because these people love to put a twist to your words, To infer that you said something fucking absurd."

Well, even though the album release date is kind of far, we can still hear the new songs if they play them on the summer tour, which isn't that far. Their first show is at the end of May, hopefully they play at least 5 or 6 new songs :awesome:

lol. If they play a new song, it'll be the first single and nothing else. It's fucked up that they have tour dates so early and the album is so fucking far away
