I think that style of rock music was in vogue during the time of 2000-2003, a lot of bands had (even superficially) the same sound of HT and Meteora. LP separated themselves by having a more authentic, sophisticated and melodic sound than most of the nu metal acts. They were also smart to release BTH as a single, which indicated to the world they were leaning that way for the future. After Jay Z did Collision Course with them, it showed audiences that LP had crossover appeal and would outlast nu metal and most other hard rock acts I went off on a tangeant and am not even sure my point is relevant to the discussion lol.
