    The Longest Yard

I'd give it 6/10 simply because there was too much american football action, not enough comedy and they killed off the funniest charecter in the film,Chris Rock, halfway through.Still a decent film though.

War of the Worlds - Shit movie. So dumb, so illogical, the entire movie treads along as an disaster-horror film focusing on a dramatic survival with an even more disappointing ending. Tom Cruise was a babysitter during the latter of the movie. Spieldberg needs to roll over and cease making movies. Baby-eating robots are cool though. 6/10

    War of the Worlds.

I came out of this movie so unsatisfied. Tom Cruise is my favorite actor, and even his performance (which was good, nowhere near his performances in 'Collateral' and 'The Last Samurai', though) couldn't save this movie.

    The Good
    -- Visually stunning.
-- Dakota Fanning and Tom Cruise delivered strong performances.
    -- Inventive in parts. (seldom)
-- Some good character vs. character conflicts.
-- The scene when the tripod first comes out of the ground and everybody is running around while the ground splits apart, windows shatter, buildings collapse, and people are vaporized. That was cool.

    The Bad
-- Filled with plotholes. (Ray's watch doesn't work when the lightning storm hits, no cars are working, but people are somehow taking photos and filming the tripod coming out of the ground? Everything was fried!)
    -- Badly explained. Very confusing.
-- Very improbable happenings (I know it's a Sci-Fi movie, but I'm talking about what happens to the humans, who have no powers or anything. Ex: How Robbie runs into a battlefield of tripod killing machines, a massive explosion occurs, and he somehow, inexplicably, makes it all the way to Boston, alive. Ridiculous.)

    I'm disappointed. 7/10.

I saw it too. I did question the power outtage thing with the camera, and my friend and I had a theory about the Robbie thing. We said that he escaped the falling tripod and figured Ray and Rachel got out of the way, and just went to Boston, and we had the theory that he was the one that killed the random dead tripod on Boston before the last attack.

Overall I loved it. I loved the original movie and this one definitely did not disappoint me.

Agreed. I thought there were some plotholes. But overall a very good movie.

War of the Worlds. Definitely not a feel-good movie. Pretty depressing, but overall a good movie, and it's good to see that Speilberg stayed close to the book (well, I haven't read it, but ending in the book was used in the movie).

    Minor Spoilers Ahead...

I saw "War Of The Worlds" with a group of friends two days ago. Personally, I loved it.

I thought the acting (all around) was great. I was kind of skeptical of the acting before I saw the movie, though, because the choices they put in the commercials were all key parts of the movie (which I didn't know at the time), so I was afraid that there'd be far too much overacting for my tastes. But it all stayed pretty believable, in terms of acting. Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Tim Robbins, etc all did great jobs.

The effects were easily the best part of the movie, if you ask me. The special effects looked absolutely jaw-dropping at times, and the sound effects matched up perfectly. They really helped the feeling of mass chaos, and the noises that the tripods made were perfect for the part.

I, personally, thought the storyline was fine. Some people say it was just your standard alien-affair stuff and was unbelievable, but I loved it. Some reviews I've read (and things I've seen people say) said that it was basically hiding out in the basement, which is dead wrong, because those were just two scenes in the entire movie, one of which was extremely important to it. And the whole point of the movie was showing a family's tribulations, not the entire culture's or world's.

The one negative thing I thought about the movie was the ending. I would've kept the same basic ending that they had (the whole bacteria ending and it killing the aliens), but I also think I would've made it a bit more evil, with maybe Robbie dying or something... The end was just too short, too, if you ask me. They tried to resolve everything in 5 minutes after such an amazing rest of the movie.
