To be honest I can only find one label to place linkin park as and that is Hybrid Rock. They mix differnt types of music while keeping one element and that is the rock rock element, I think most of their songs have atleast one thing in it to make it seem like a rock song. I also think this because of their original name "Hybrid Theory" They wanted to make a hybrid of differnt kinds of music and on the first CD I think that it just happened to be Hip-Hop and Rock. I also think that it was so well received that they were afraid if they changed their music on their second cd their sucess would not have went very far but now with minutes to midnight they are back to mixing differnt genres. There's alot of pop, alot of rock, some heavy metal and a dash of Rap and R&B anyway what do you think is their label, if any can be given to them?
Alternative Rock. Why? Because its different from original rock. You don't often hear turntables, samples, rapping and hip hop beats in rock music. Some of their songs sort of seem punkish (One Step Closer) as well, but really I think Alternative Rock best suits their genre.
Honestly the only label which fully encompasses the band is alternative rock, and occasionally alternative metal for their heavier songs.
People are gonna flame me for this, but up until Minutes To Midnight, they were a Nu-Metal, or Rapcore band. Whatever genre you put Limp Bizkit in really. And that's not necesarily a bad thing. As far as I'm concerned the Nu-metal genre is one of the best ever.
At JNudda: Well that would certainly be interesting, wouldn't it? At [HARLZ]: Eh, that's what they were technically. I don't think anyone can flame you for that because it's pretty much true. They're more Alternative Rock / Metal now, though.
Honestly I tend to avoid sticking labels onto things. To me it's all just "music", I find it really hard to nail certain bands down to one particular genre. Obviously there's the all-encompassing genres like Hip-Hop, Rock, Metal, that are easy to attach, but further than that it's just not something I really do. I'd agree with whoever said before that it was "Alternative Rock/Metal", I suppose.
Yeah, there's a lot of bands out there who have a pretty unique sound. So yeah, it can be hard to categorize artists sometimes. That's why we have these big, encompassing tents for genres. Rock, alternative, pop, metal, indie etc. It's just so the music retailers know where the hell to put the CD. As far as the fans are concerned they can give the music whatever name they like.
That's where alternative rock comes in, though. I've never categorized Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit or even P.O.D. as nu-metal simply because I hate that word. (I just think it sounds stupid.) To me, there's rock, and then there's alternative rock, which encompasses all the various portions of rock music that aren't there normally, such as the rapping, the electronica elements, etc.
I consider them Alternative Rock (for similar reasons as stated above), but that's just me. To each his own.
Yeah. I know that's not technically what alternative rock is, but that's the way I look at things. I hate being too specific with genres.
