I'd consider myself an omnivore but leaning more towards carnivore. I mostly listen to heavy metal (Pantera, Machine Head) and nu metal (Limp Bizkit, Korn) however, I do like some soft bands like Dave Matthews Band.

I tend to lean more towards heavy music, but most of the music that means the most to me is the soft stuff. Omnivore it is (My music collection is 50/50 Heavy and Soft).

I feel like 99% of people are going to choose Omnivore. People listen to both, in one way or another, even if it's not hugely contrasting things like "death metal" vs. "synth pop".

Omnivore. I have LP, A7X, and some Metallica. Then I turn around and have rap, orchestral, and folkish hippie stuff. I feel most people are omnivores and those that aren't are the kind of people that trash the opposite side. Like "Fans of old Linkin Park" and "ATS Fanboys".

I'm an omnivore, though it's hard not to just call myself carnivorous (do I really have these terms?). The music I enjoy most sounds like Satan fucking screaming in your fucking face and guitars that sound like a wood chipper and there's no drummer, just some guy in the back shooting a 50 can machine gun. That stuff really makes me happy but at the same time I can't live off just that. I need softer stuff, I need angsty stuff, I need my hippy stuff. I just need side dishes. My entrée of choice is some really fucking brutal shit.

I'm going to try and not tell anyone who's wrongly categorized themselves as an omnivore or carnivore that their music is "pushy shit." Because it is all pushy shit to me at this point.

Albums by LP and Deftones (and maybe NIN as well) are pretty much the only "hard rock" stuff that I listen to. The rest of my music library consists mostly of electronic music of all kinds. Mostly.

I don't think that "carnivorous" in this context should refer to how heavy or rock the music is but, rather, how daring it is.

well , i would call myself more a "Carnivore" because the most of the music i listen too is more or less heavy (like LP).

There are maybe 2-3 Indie Bands i would listen too, but the most of i hear is some Punk/Rock/Metal Stuff. Even if this stuff isnt the "heaviest shit on earth", i am totally on the "hard side" of music.

    I can't.

How the fuck can you relate these terms to a listener? Like softer, poppy music can't be demanding or risky. Take Midnight for example. I'll definitely say that's as risky or even riskier than anything on, say, The Hunting Party. As Tony said, not only heavy music is daring.

In this case, I'm pretty sure he means the actual heaviness, or softness of the music, not the "riskiness" of the music, like Mike related Japanese kids being "Herbivorous."

Why did you put "alternative" under "herbivore"? Alternative can be heavy, e.g. alternative metal.

Anyway, I voted for "omnivore" (even though what you put under "herbivore" describes my taste the best) because I listen to stuff like System of a Down, Rammstein and Eluveitie.

Then why not a thread ''Which type of music do you prefer?''? These terms are ok in the context Mike used them. This is just plain stupid. You're not a carnivore for listening to Korn. You're not a herbivore for Coldplay. You're not an omnivore if you like both.
