Great thread! Some of my all-time-favourites in no particular order: HammerFall - Crimson Thunder I haven't really listened to HammerFall in a long time but there was a time when I was madly in love with them. I especially loved this album, I just didn't get tired of listening to it... It contains catchy anthems, mind-blowing guitar solos and one of my favourite songs ever, In Memoriam. I don't know why I'm not that into heavy/power metal anymore - I guess I kind of outgrew it... But that won't change the fact that these guys rule! I believe that this album and especially In Memoriam will always have a place in my heart. Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother I have many memories involving the first track of this album (also called Atom Heart Mother). My dad really loved Pink Floyd and listened to this album a lot on his stereos in our living room when I was a kid - the volume turned all the way up of course... I remember the magnificent orchestral sound. It was kind of scary and often made me a bit anxious. My brother and I called it "cow music" cause there was a cow on the cover of the album. A few years later, after my dad had passed away, I discovered Pink Floyd's music and found this album in dad's collection and instantly recognised the first song. And fell in love with it. It's such a masterpiece! It consists of so many interesting parts and elements. I like the other tracks, too, but if it wasn't for Atom Heart Mother, I probably wouldn't mention this album now. Nightwish - Once Nightwish was one of the bands my dad listened to, as well, and that's how I started liking them, too. I remember listening to this record with my brother over and over again, it was just so diverse, interesting and great. And one of my favourite songs, Ghost Love Score, is on it. I really love all the symphonic and orchestral elements in NW's music, the lyrics, the heaviness and the beauty... This album has it all. Nightwish - Dark Passion Play I want to mention this album, too, cause I have such good memories regarding it. I remember listening to it for the first time, I was with my brother in his room, I was sitting in his armchair and browsing through the booklet. The artwork was amazing, those pictures and the music really evoked feelings in me. Sunrise Avenue - On the Way to Wonderland When I was in junior high, I listened to this album a lot with my best friend. We would sing the songs and have fun... I think Only was our favourite. Listening to it still evokes good but wistful memories. This is a nice solid rock album, nothing unpredictable but that's okay. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory This was the first LP album I heard in its entity and I just fell in love with it. It sounded really fresh - I had never heard any rap rock stuff before and I wasn't familiar with hip hop at all. This album was so different from anything I'd heard before and it changed my views on many things. I think the entire album is great. Linkin Park - A Thousand Suns After listening to this album for the first time, I didn't really know what to think, but it grew on me quickly. It's so enchanting - I can listen to the whole album, not skip any of the songs, and greatly enjoy it. It's diverse, interesting and mesmerising. Such a great album! Coldplay - X&Y Many people seem to dislike this album but I don't really understand why. It was the first Coldplay album I ever heard (thanks to my brother) and it's still my favourite one. I remember playing Super Mario 64 DS and having this record playing on the background, haha... I pretty much like all the songs on this album, I don't see anything wrong with them. The Rasmus - Hide from the Sun Memories, memories! I think I was in sixth grade when HFTS came out. I was obsessed with this band and listened to this album a lot. For some reason, many people seem to dislike it - I don't see why, I think it's a great album from start to finish and probably my favourite from TR. I like the overall atmosphere of the record - it's quite dark and melancholic but in a good way, I think.
